1. If the match is fixed for a tie, why would Indian score 338? it is very difficult for chasing team to score 338 and tie the game Around 250 untay....it will be much easier to tie 2. If the match is fixed, why would the target will be 29 runs in the last 2 overs? It is always difficult to score SIXERs and FOURS and score 29 in 12 balls. the problem with this "fixing" outlook is you can prove that any match in any sport is fixed. you can extend this cynical outlook and say all athletes dope and so on and so forth. that said, warne's prediction and cricket's past history with match-fixing gives people a lot of ammunition to take that tempting path that cynicism and imagination can create. a fair number of people i know yelled "fixing" as soon as they heard the news about warne's prediction. once your mind is made up, you can easily dig up proofs to support your view. think about this, the greatest ODI ever played could have been fixed too. hansie cronje - the king pin of the match-fixing saga was the captain, gibbs, his cronie was there. warne was there, junior waugh was there. in the penultimate over of the SAn chase of 214, klusener tried to hit mcgrath out of the park and paul reiffel instead of taking the catch, palmed it over the ropes for a six. then ofcourse there was THE runout. that is one way to see that epic semi-final in 1999 WC. OR... you can think about that gem of a delivery pollock bowled to remove mark waugh. ricky ponting's terrific pulls off elworthy. senior waugh and michael bevan rescuing aussies from 68/4.... donald and pollock bowling like a dream to take 9 of the 10aussie wickets to fall..... gibbs' brilliant cover drives off mcgrath, warne's magic balls to remove gibbs and kirsten, kallis and rhodes doing the rescue act for SA..... cullinan's crazy run out, pollock's beautiful hits off warne's bowling, mcgrath bowling boucher and klusener's magic and then, heartbreak for all SAn supporters. if such a sequence of events can really be fixed, i would say power to those involved. i have watched these events countless times and i will continue to do so whether they are fixed or not. that ball warne bowled to remove gibbs, i would watch it a million times even if warne bowled it in the nets. i remember when kapil dev cried on that karan thapar show, one of the followers wrote a letter to sportstar saying enough is enough. i donot care if kapil fixed some stupid matches, his 175*, that catch to get richards, those 4 sixes off hemmings, his bowling india to a win in melbourne after taking pain-killers - these are what i will remember. point being, sometimes we get fixated with winning/losing so much so that we forget the priceless mini-events that make up the whole match. think about sehwag's cut shot off anderson, his forehand whip over mid-on. sachin's superb flicks off anderson - one each on either side of the fielder at square leg. gambhir's stepping out and hitting bresnan over point and swann over mid-wicket. sachin's chip over long-off for six off collingwood..... his 2 slog sweeps off swann, swann's sweet delivery to gambhir, yuvraj's gritty 50, dhoni's energetic batting. bresnan's brilliant bowling at the death, strauss' masterpiece of an innings, excellent backfoot play and manouvering to beat dhoni's field settings and staying one step ahead of dhoni at all-times, KP's little cameo, the drama of bell's dismissal and some nice hits from him afterwards, bell's cramping and zaheer's yorker to strauss and india coming back into the match and then a six each from bresnan, swann and shahzad and munaf holding his nerve to prevent further tragedy. who wrote this super script? he should be in the kodak theatre yesterday, not in bengaluru. fixing or no fixing, the WORLD CUP has come alive with this match, much like that terrific thriller between safrica and srilanka in 2007. let us hope australia-sl and eng-sa will follow up this terrific act. the script-writer better get ready if he is going to out-do this. the world cup was dull and not live so far. every match so far was one sided. so the ICC wanted it to be active and live. that explains everything along with the not appealing, not out by III umpire, sluggish running for runs, fielding placing by dhoni, etc my guess is that they fixed for eng win but in the end it was a tie. win-win situation. | ||
