Man donates organs of 8-yr-old brain dead son Hyderabad, April 22: A man donated the organs of his eight-year-old son, who was declared brain dead to two persons waiting for transplantation. D. Rahul Raj, son of D. Manik Rao, who suffered brain haemorrhage and underwent a surgery in Lotus Hospital on March 18 was later declared brain dead. The boy was a class I student of G Narayanamma High School at Mehidipatnam. Rahul Raj was haemophilic. The boy’s mother, D. Radhika, a housewife was informed of the organ donation only after the procedure. Rahul’s liver was transplanted to a 12-year-old boy who was suffering with a liver disease and both his kidneys were transplanted to a 32-year-old woman. His eyes were donated to LV Prasad Eye Institute. But Mr Rao asked the doctors to spare his son’s heart. Mr D. Manik Rao who runs a hair cutting saloon at Mehidipatnam said: “On Sriramanavami, Rahul went to Bhojagutta temple and climbed the hillock. When he returned in the noon, he started vomiting and fell unconscious we rushed him to Lotus Hospital were he was admitted.” The doctors said he suffered a blood clot. Rahul was kept under observation for 48 hours after the surgery but did not respond to medicines. “Meanwhile Mohan Foundation activists approached us and we agreed for organ donation,” Mr Rao said.
