It is now official. The UPA government on Friday ruled out introduction of Telangana Bill in the ensuing budget session of Parliament. No, there is no question of introducing the Telangana Bill in the budget session of the Parliament. There is no such proposal from the Home Ministry and so, it is not in the agenda of Parliament,Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pavan Kumar Bansal told the media in New Delhi. The minister’s categorical statement has made it clear that the Centre has no intention of granting separate Telangana. Interestingly, the Telangana Congress MLAs and MLCs who have been camping in New Delhi and met home minister P Chidambaram on Friday expressed confidence that Telangana state would be granted. Otherwise, we will resign from our seats,they thundered. Earlier, Chidambaram had a meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and apparently got their mandate on not declaring Telangana. |
