(Dharmavarapu type lo chadu kondi) The Kiran Kumar Reddy government's decision to mortgage the properties of SC and BC welfare corporations to mobilize funds for fee reimbursement scheme came in for sharp criticism from the opposition parties. Telugu Desam Party leader T Devender Goud sought to know why the chief minister cannot mortgage his posh bungalow at Begumpet, besides the assembly and the secretariat to mobilize funds for reimbursing the tuition fee to the BC students. "It is unfortunate that the government has become so weak as to think of selling public properties to implement the schemes. The SC/BC corporations have already become bankrupt and the government is planning to wind them up completely by pledging their assets," he said. He pointed out that the government had already closed 17 corporations and federations and the present decision would lead to permanent closure of SC and BC corporations. "Instead of spending crores of rupees on advertisements and publicity, the government can use the money for reimbursement of fees to students, he said. |
