Smart/Intelligent switches unnai kadaa.. netgear.com lo chooste dorukutai.. ofcourse home ki aithe cost effective undadu.. mav - nee problem ni correct gaa diagnose cheyyi first.. During peak hours, when you think router is slowing down your network, remove the router and plug in the device directly to cable modem and test the speed. If you are planning to put a switch in between, that will have zero effect imo, esp if your internet speed is not high enough. In this db, there's always someone watching you!! |

Buy a switch which can give IP addresses - DHCP capable.. then you can connect cable moded--switch--router. In this db, there's always someone watching you!! |

Maverick:oooh.., i wanted the switch after the cable modem, and connect router to the switch in the 4th port
You ISP gives you only one IP (external). But, the devices connected to switch need separed IPs (internal), so it does not work. Only, router can give IPs to each device. |

Oohlala:18-55mm VR + 55-300mm VR Lens
They are nice with entry/mid-level camera like D3100. I have 18-55mm which is convenient for everyday indoor/outdoor and portrait use. Swap the 55-300mm to tele and macro use. If you go for higher model camera (D7000/D300s) then pair it with better lenses. |

Truelies:cable never maintains constant speed - its shared across the neighbors unlike DSL which is dedicated to your home with constant speed.
But, in theory, cable can provide much higher speeds (though fluctuating) than constant dsl speed. My boost plan on cable is rated for 30 mpbs and it never comes below 20 mbps. |

Mav, The switch you mentioned (on Amazon) is fine, except it does not have gigabit ports. If your router has gigabit ports (1000 Mpbs), then you can take advantage by adding gigabit switch. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127 083 I am using a 8-port version of Dlink (DGS-2208) |

Yes, that can be done. If you want to wire more than 4 devices then add a switch. Router -> switch -> devices (all wired connections) This leaves more ports available on the router, for future. |
