One of the leading Telugu associations in America ATA (American Telugu Association) was split when 13 of the 27 existing board members resigned in a meeting held in Houston, Texas. The current president also resigned along with the trustees, claiming financial irregularities, un democratic election processes and lack of transparency. âMy recent visit to ATA office in Chicago confirmed my earlier suspicions of serious mishandling of funds and manipulation of the election processesâ said Jithender Reddy. âI am left with no choice but to resign from this organization that is riddled with illegal activities.â Along with the President Jithender Reddy thirteen board members resigned from ATA with similar allegations. Several Telugu community leaders including Dr. Pailla Malla Reddy of New York and Dr. Prem Reddy of California pledged their support to the new Non-Profit Telugu organization, North American Telugu Association (NATA), incorporated in New Jersey, USA. The pledge of NATA is to be an all inclusive organization representing all aspects of Telugu communities in North America with more transparency and accountability, serving the cultural, literary and philanthropic causes. An initial advisory committee of NATA was formed. Inaugural meeting of the leadership is scheduled to take place in January, 2011, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
