cut & paste.... ---------------- Shipping is expensive and more so the NTSC format will not work in India.. and you can’t get a PAL system or multi-color system here. More so you get 120 V inputs for the TV here and no support for 220V In India itself you are getting pretty much all the models that you get here. The prices are comparable… Buy it there itself and save yourself the pain and effort ---------------- I don’t have any experience on taking lcd tv from here to India. Definitely you will have to convert ntsc to pal format inorder to view local cable channels. You can expect custom duty from nothing to 33% depending upon the airport in India and depending upon how well you negotiate with the customs officer. Not sure about the shipping cost. The final verdict what I heard from many of the members is, its better to buy the LCD TV in India. After applying custom duty, the price becomes more than the price of India. ---------------- Yes, there are problems with NTSC and PAL. Most of the LCD’s available here are locked for NTSC unlike LCD’s in India, which have the option to switch between NTSC and PAL. You will need a converter to convert the signal from NTSC to PAL in India (Again there is a drop in the quality cause of this. Aver Media is a good converter in the market). 110 ~ Voltage conversion is again a problem. When you use an voltage converter, BIG LCD’s screens will experience a problem as they suddenly switch off because of the load on the Voltage converter. For small screens they work fine. Overall it’s a pain in the A, if you know what I mean. I tried it in the past and it’s not worth it. Despite all the dollars you spend, you will still have connectivity issues, signal drops and reduced quality in the output. In fact, I ended up spending more on the total cost cause of the NTSC/PAL converter. These days you get better LCD’s for less even in India. On fewer models, couple of hundred dollars may be more in India but it is still a worthy buy. Check out SAMSUNG. They got some great LCD’s and LED’s. Sony always charges premium in India. I still can’t understand why. May be the same HONDA story. Here in US, HONDA is like a Taxi car but back in India it is still a Premium car. My sincere recommendation to you is a BIG NO !!! Idle, we had a similar discussion at work and the consensus was to buy it in India. Even though the price is a little less here, you would have to pay customs, for converter and also you will have issues with NTSC/PAL formats. | ||
