Both are great singers - it goes without saying  But we are always more connected to the music we grow up on - and I grew up listening to VIvidh Bharathi and All India Radio's hindi songs - so naturally I am more inclined towards the singers who made an impact on my life - Rafi, Mukesh,Asha Hemt, Kishore And to me music is not about skill or technique but a medium that connects the soul with divinity - ambica darbar bathi type aa chal ke tujhe main leke chalu ik aise gagan ke tale jahan gam bhi na ho, aansoo bhi na ho,bas pyaar hi pyaar pale | ||

You completely lost me there - to me the two songs are as far apart as I can think of Kishore's variations are flashy, in your face - Rafi's are very subtle I am not discounting Kishore's talent at all - but I find Rafi's subtlety moves me at a deeper level than Kishore's best could aa chal ke tujhe main leke chalu ik aise gagan ke tale jahan gam bhi na ho, aansoo bhi na ho,bas pyaar hi pyaar pale | ||

I rate Kishore better , precisely for this reason. Agreed Rafi voice is melodius but thats pretty much about it. Guru dutt movie Pyasa and Chaudvi ka chand tesukondi-Rafi sang sar jo tera takraye and chaduvi ka chand ho in almost same tempo. Cinema context lo chusthe one is situational comic song and other is a plain duet but rafi treated both songs in similar fashion. Wheras kishore - his range is enormous..chalti ka naam gaadi is the best example .. ek ladki song lo picha melodious ga untadi kishore voice and in hum the woh thi samah rangeen song lo altogether different ga untadi voice. | ||

Like Elca said - Rafi makes even the simplest song sound like honey - I do not think I have heard any that grate on my ears..
For me Kishore's songs only appeal when they have lyrical value - and there are many of those - especially philosophical ones - my signature is a Kishore song too He had a great voice but I just don't see the finer nuances Rafi added to his songs - like sau baar janam lenge is a very plain melody - its his touch that makes it magical. Aradhana ani oka cinema untadhi...kaka dhi... dhani tharwatha nundi KK famous iyyadu and rafi had a dispute with lata during same time and she being a ,u know that , started to blackmail music dirs she wont sing with rafi...and rafis era started to end.... and in aradhana u got songs from both kk and rafi... kk had nice numbers like sapnon ki rani and roop tera mastana...they became a rage... and rafi sang only one...gun guna rahen hain...for me gun guna seemed eternal when i listened to it....very plain composition nothing much going for it but that voice man...its haunting...dude was blessed | ||

Well said ... I still think Variation is needed for a Singers resume but for me Md Rafi Saab is Numero Uno ... Hindi was Dominating in 60-80 all the way in music/Singers talent ... 80-90's was Gazal ' ish time 90-2000 --- Breakdance'ish type etc .. so No dispect to ghantasaala Gaaru but Md Rafi is Next level to all .... i have never heard this song before, but ee lines ayana padina range lo padatam chala kastham, i have never seen ne one attempting this song in any competitions/reality tv shows etc, that itself tells me how difficult for any one to sing this song with same feel and expressions. Contemporary singers lo Rahath okadu padagaladu anukunta danikantey inkoncham ekkuva range lo... hats of to Rafi saab, i would never compare two singers in any form, its impossible to come to conclusion who is good and who is bad, each singer has their own trait. Rafi and SPB's forte is their expressions/feel and modulations that they add to any song, they make you feel the song that is more important. it's SPB's opinion...doesn't mean he is right...honestly we cannot compare two singers from two diff languages i feel ghantasala has more versatility than Md RAfi...not that rafi is bad it's just that he is not good as ghantasala... an apt comparision would be between rafi and kishore...the hardest part is deciding you sings pathos better...rafi or kishore | ||
