quote:In a veritable bonanza for Madhya Pradesh, day one of the Global Investors' Summit-II at this world-renowned tourist destination witnessed inking of 22 memoranda of understanding (MoU) worth Rs 1,20,637 crore -- no wonder Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and others wore beaming smiles. The first MoU, amounting to Rs 33,147 cr, was signed between Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor officials and the state Trade and Investment Facilitation Corporation and aims at infrastructure development. UltraTech Cement inked three MoU -- totalling Rs 6,000 cr -- for Dhar and Satna districts. ''A Rs 14,000-cr MoU was signed for a power project in Tikamgarh district,'' state Industry Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya told reporters. Jaiprakash Associates inked five MoU -- totalling Rs 1,850 cr -- for cement and related industries. Projects envisaged include a cement plant in Satna, a cement grinding plant in Bina, a 120-MW plant in Sidhi and a soya-processing unit in Rewa. Essar signed a Rs 2,450-cr MoU in the cement and ferro sector, Gas Authority of India Ltd inked a Rs 4,900-cr MoU, Geomysore Services India signed a mining MoU for Rs 300 cr and Khajuraho Eco Business inked a MoU linked to an integrated rural development area in Chhatarpur. Videocon Industries signed a MoU for Budhni -- the Chief Minister's constituency -- two MoU, totalling Rs 18,500 cr, were inked for power generation in Satna and Rewa, the National Thermal Power Corporation signed a Rs 20,000-cr MoU and GMR Bundelkhand Energy inked a Rs 14,000-cr MoU for generating 1,980 MW. Essel signed a Rs 2,970-cr MoU for generating 660 MW and Rio Tinto inked a Rs 2,300-cr MoU for mining in Chhatarpur. CM's cautionary note to investors Khajuraho, Oct 22: In a cautionary note to investors, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today said that no tardiness will be brooked in the context of implementation of memoranda of understanding (MoU) being inked at the Global Investors' Summit-II, which got underway here today. ''In case of delay, the MoU concerned will be cancelled,'' he said at this world-renowned tourist destination--famed for its Chandela-era shrines--while inaugurating the Summit being attended by business magnates from within India and abroad. ''The state's growth rate has almost touched 9 per cent and I desire to take it beyond the 10 per cent mark for which a roadmap is ready. I urge industries to endeavour to provide employment to at least 50 per cent of the local populace,'' the Bharatiya Janata Party leader said. Pointing out that industries worth Rs 36,000 crore had seen light of day as a result of MoU signed at the Indore investors' summit three years back, he added that MoU amounting to Rs 20,000 cr will be fully implemented this fiscal even as work progresses rapidly on MoU worth Rs 1,28,000 cr. ''By 2013-14, Madhya Pradesh will emerge as a power-surplus state. Henceforth, mining leases will be provided only to those who bring about value addition in the state. My government has a land bank reserve of 20,000 hectares that will be provided to industries,'' Mr Chouhan said. From Rs 100 to crores: The story of Jaypee Group Khajuraho, Oct 22: ''Fifty years back, I came to Madhya Pradesh with a mere Rs 100 but now my industrial units worth crores are present not only in this state but in several other places in the country and abroad,'' said. Jaypee Group Founding Chairman Jaiprakash Gaur he was narrating his success story at the Global Investors' Summit-II, which got underway today at this world-renowned tourist destination -- famed for its Chandela-era shrines -- and is being attended by business magnates from within India and abroad. ''My Group is investing more and more in this state,'' said Essar Group Chairperson Shashi Ruia while Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India top gun Dilip Modi said that Assocham is endeavouring to invest in Madhya Pradesh and is in discussions with industrialists. Rio Tinto Global Head (International Affairs) Robert Court said that his group is prospecting for diamonds in Chhatarpur district and will make massive investment there. Birla pats CM's back Khajuraho, Oct 22: Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla today had a word of praise for social-sector schemes implemented by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. ''Lopsided industrialisation is undesirable for the state's all-round development,'' the business magnate felt on the inaugural day of the Global Investors' Summit-II at this world-renowned tourist destination. Lauding the government's approach to industrial development, he added that an investor-friendly climate has been created in Madhya Pradesh. ''The Aditya Birla Group is willing to be a partner in the state's integrated development and will invest in aluminium and cement plants,'' Mr Birla said. Khajuraho Investors Summit-II set to write golden future of Madhya Pradesh Khajuraho, Oct 22: The efforts the state government was undertaking for the last one and a half years to reconstruct Madhya Pradesh have written a new chapter in the industrial development of the state. One the day-1 of Khajuraho Global Investors' Summit-II here today, it was as if MoUs were showering in the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Memoranda of Understanding to the tune of Rs 1 lakh 6 thousand 417 crore were signed, making the day a historic one for Madhya Pradesh industrial scenario. Open invitation works wonder The state government not only presented all the options before the investors for joining hands in the development and progress of Madhya Pradesh but also made its intentions clear to cement ties further with investors by playing a cordial host to them. Not only the Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan but the entire state cabinet was present to accord a warm welcome to the investors and industrialists. Those who were in the forefront in welcoming the guests included Finance Minister Raghavji, Industry Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra and Rural Development Minister Gopal Bhargava. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj was also present on the occasion. The administrative machinery of the state was also in full swing. Chief Secretary Avani Vaish and two Additional Chief Secretaries - Satya Prakash and Abha Ashtana are also attending the summit. Investors' eagerness Investors took no time in understanding that climate of Madhya Pradesh is good for industrial investments. This can be gauged from the fact that during only one and a half hours' talks, 20 MoUs were inked ensuring investment to the tune of over Rs one lakh crore in the state. Happiness writ large on the face of the Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and those of the investors after the exercise of signing MoUs. Before inking the agreements, all the options were put forth in detail before the investors. The investors, who have not entered into MoUs, were also seen discussing the pros and cons of investment in Madhya Pradesh and coming forward to sign MoUs. Today's MoUs Of the 20 MoUs inked on the day-1 include 16 MoUs in the industrial sector and four in the energy sector. The first MoU of Rs 33 thousand 147 crore was signed between DMIC and TRIFAC for infrastructure development followed by three MoUs worth Rs 6 thousand crore by Ultratech for establishing cement factories in Dhar and Satna districts, five MoUs worth Rs one thousand 850 crore by Jaiprakash Associates for opening cement and other industries in Satna, cement grinding plant in Bina, 120 MW power plant in Sidhi and a soya processing unit in Rewa. Other companies which also signed MoUs during the day include ESSAR for investing Rs 2 thousand 450 crore in cement and ferro sector, GAIL India for investing Rs 4 thousand 900 crore in oil and natural gas sector, Jiyo Mysore Services Limited for investing Rs 300 crore for mineral exploration, Khajuraho Eco Business Limited for investment in Integrated Rural Development sector in Chhatarpur area, two MoUs by Videocon Industries for investing Rs 18 thousand 500 hundred crore for white goods in Budhni and energy sector in Satna and Rewa, MoU by NTPC for investing Rs 20 thousand crore in the energy sector, MoUs by JMR Bundelkhand Energy Private Limited for investing Rs 14 thousand crore for generating 1980 MW power, MoUs by ESSIL Limited for investing Rs 2 thousand 970 crore in the energy sector for generating 660 MW power and an MoUs was signed by Rio Tinto Limited for investing Rs 2 thousand 300 crore on mineral exploration in Chhatarpur. Investors Show Great Interest In Tourism Sector Khajuraho, Oct 22: The delegates attending the Khajuraho Global Investors' Summit here showed great interest in tourism sector. The interest of the investors from the country and abroad can be gauged from the fact that more than 150 of them had one-to-one talk with senior officers. At the one-to-one talk the Chief Minister Shirvaj Singh Chouhan had with the investors, among other senior officers, his principal secretary Iqbal Singh Bais was also asked to be present. During the discussion the investors were given detailed information about facts and opportunities in the field of tourism. In his invitation letter Chouhan had requested the investors to have comparative study about opportunities in tourism field. That is why when the investors were appealed to come forward to invest in tourism, the interest of the investors was aroused again. The officers explained to the investors about the heritage centres, un-matched wildlife, main pilgrimage attractions, godly beauty of the environment, best climate and colours of tribal and traditional festivals. Because of these special qualities, Madhya Pradesh has a unique identity in the whole country. Showing glimpses of the beauty of the state the officers also presented clippings from the feature films filmed in the state during the last five years. All these were not possible without presence of suitable locations. Another important fact was that honest efforts in an effective way were made to bring these realities before the investors. Several of the investors were heard talking and wondering in the conference hall that how come they were not heard about this earlier. However, several of them seem to have determined to invest in the field of tourism and it is certain that tourism would definitely grow faster. Five Hundred Investors Participated Khajuraho, Oct 22: It is a well known fact to everybody about the strong intention of the present state government in its second continuous innings to make the state as 'Swarnim Madhya Pradesh'. This strong will of the state government has proved successful at the Khajuraho Global Investors' Summit-II being held today and tomorrow. A total 475 investors including 60 from 16 different countries are attending the Summit. The facts came out of the one-to-one meet with the investors is that the main reason that brought the investors to the Summit was the appeal of the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The investors came to know about the strong will of the state government. Around 50 investors were of the opinion that if such a Summit was organised to avail political mileage, it would have been held just a year before the election. Since the government initiated this Summit immediately after taking reign of the state, it has shown the good intention of the government for development of the state. The pledge of 'Swarnim Madhya Pradesh' and the Yatra started by the chief minister for 'Aao Banayen Apna Madhya Pradesh' was topics of discussion among the investors. Only after understanding the strong will and intention of the state government, the investors started showing keen interest in investment. The intention and condition of the state government to give 50 per cent employment to local people may be fulfilled soon. The investors came to know about the strong will of the state government to implement its good intention at the ground level This intention of the government was accepted by the investors. This was one of the reasons they started signing the MoUs. The Chief Minister has explained in detail his policy for increasing industrial investment to the investors. Therefore, after the agreement is signed, the path of implementation would automatically become clear. The officers and the peoples representatives made it clear to the investors during the discussions held at different occasions that the state government's step to change the industrial scenario of the state would not stop now.

At the same time, Swaraj made it clear that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had not imposed any condition on the issue of Modi campaigning. She said that it would be better if the 'old arrangement' continued under which Modi had not campaigned during the 2005 Bihar assembly polls and the 2009 general elections. "Modi's magic and charisma have worked in Gujarat, but it is not necessary that everybody's magic works at every place. In Bihar, the magic of Nitish Kumar and Sushil Kumar [ Images ] Modi is at work, and we are confident of our victory for carrying forward development," Swaraj told reporters. "Nitishji has put no condition before us on whether or not Narendra Modi should campaign in Bihar. The decision on who should or should not campaign in Bihar has been the sole discretion of the BJP," she said. On the recent statement of the chief minister that the ideology of the Janata Dal - United was different from that of the BJP, she said, "If the ideology of both parties were similar, then both would have merged into one party. Kumar has been right in his stand that though the ideologies of the two parties are different, we have worked together keeping in view the Common Minimum Programme for governance and delivered the goods." Swaraj said the National Democratic Alliance in Bihar represented an example of 'gatbandhan dharma' (coalition politics). She said that the Congress' charge that Gujarat was 'a laboratory of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh' was one out of frustration. "The Congress has faced a complete rout in elections to urban and rural bodies in Bihar and is making baseless allegations," Swaraj said. |
