Aayana permission lekundane pedutunna ... hope he doesn't mind !! A few weeks ago, while casually flipping the channels, I came across a rather funny interview of Ram Gopal Varma, a noted Bollywood and Telugu movie director. The anchor was asking tricky questions and the call-in person was accusing RGV of incorrectly portraying her brotherâs character in a movie that RGV was just about wrapping up. Truth be told, that was when I thought I should watch this movie. So, if that whole affair was stage managed by the PR company that RGV had hired for this movieâs promotion â Time to rejoice! It worked in my case. The trailers and the interviews set the tone of the movie correctly. Yes! There will be blood. There has been quite a lot of it and you are a fool if you expect a Swiss duet in this movie. As a matter of fact, the last thing I want to see in any movie is a duet in Switzerland. So when a cousin of mine called me up at 10:15pm to tell me the premier show was at 10:45pm, I paused not a second before blurting out â Yes I am game. And what a movie it has been! All my expectations have been surpassed and the screenplay is easily one of the best I have seen in the recent past. Right from the word go â the viewer is taken on a roller coaster ride full of ups and downs but there is never a dull moment â Blink your eyes at your own risk â for there is a significant chance that you might miss something really important. Of course there is one song in the movie that really comes across as a dampener and is my only complaint on the movie. Oh well, we do need it for the cigarette break. Donât we? And we do need a smoke after weathering the onslaught of blood for over an hour. The screenplay â I canât stop raving about it â surprises and delights constantly. Things happen on the screen when you least expect them to. The camera angles are vintage Ramu! The background music score is par excellence. The acting is super! Especially Shatrughan Sinha in a brief but very powerful role of a cinema actor who floats a political party and becomes the Chief Minister of the state. HIs role is the best written role in the movie and he has the best lines as well. Thundering applause every time he uttered a word. Vivek Oberoi gets into the skin of the character Pratap effortlessly. Watch out for his introduction scene and pay attention to the audio design of the sequence. People in Andhra Pradesh will relate to the movie completely and can easily guess which real life icons the characters correspond to. There is a reason why CM Shivaji Raoâs lines got the best response in the movie hall. I doubt if the national audience would react in the same way â for they donât have the context. This movie is not for the fainthearted. At the same time, there is no gory violence. Yes, heads are smashed under rocks but you donât get to see it explicitly. Still, I donât think it is everyoneâs cup of tea. Regardless of the movieâs commercial fate, it would remain a cult classic. And if my sources are to be believed, the movie has been shot quite economically. Unless it is a disaster, it should recover its investment. Verdict: Go watch it. But leave your kids at home.
