Yeddyurappa govt survives trust vote For the second time in three days, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa survuived a trust vote in the state assembly today. Governor H R Bhardwaj had declared Monday's confidence vote a 'farce' and offered Yuddyurappa a second opportunity to prove his majority in the 224-member house. Yeddyurappa won 106 votes, as against 100 MLAs who said they had no confidence in his governemnt. A JDS MLA abstained from the voting. The 16 MLAs disqualified by Speaker Bopaiah were not allowed to vote. The BJP yesterday lured independent MLA Varthur Prakash back to its fold. All political parties had issued whips to their members. BJP had directed its members to vote in favour of the motion. The opposition JD(S) and Congress had directed their legislators to oppose it. On October 11, Yeddyurpapa won the trust motion by a voice vote, which was rejected by the Governor and questioned by the opposition. Bhardwaj had on Monday recommended President's rule in the state, but gave "another opportunity" to Yeddyurappa to prove his strength in the assembly today. Chiru Biography 1 Chiru Biography 2 |
