The apex court is of the opinion that law on alimony needs to be developed as Indian society is changing.

The SC was hearing a case of a woman, who had lived with a man for 14 years and has sought maintenance from her former partner, saying they had lived together for 14 years as husband and wife.

Although the court conceded that there was no law in the country that gave her such rights but at the same time recognised the need to develop the law on this count.
