The Hindi market has different tastes in different circuits and its hard enough for a Hindi film to have all India appeal so therefore regional films will find it near impossible to succeed at an all India level. Also North rejects these films from day one and South does not have market as originals are there which leaves just a fraction of the market for dubbed films. A Trivedi Q. Is it true that Endhiran will gross more than Three Idiots in India and be biggest grosser in India? A. No, the gross business will be well short of Three Idiots. In the South a lot is hearsay as collections from actual theatres are not seen. Endhiran is expected to generate a 70-100 crore distributor share, the range is big as everything is vague, some may add the minimum guarantees from theatres to share while others don't, its hard to say what is correct. Accurate figures in the South will only come when cash calls reduce and we have a big sample of theatre collections. Even if we take the 100 crore share at face value and assume its all been collected from theatres the actual gross is around 140 crore as there is no entertainment tax in Tamil Nadu for films with a Tamil name and most collections are coming from single screens. Three Idiots grossed 270 crore which is nearly double, Dabangg will do 190 crore plus, Ghajini was 155 crore even Gadar way back in 2001 did 130 crore which is not far off Endhiran. Basically Endhiran will be the fourth biggest grosser in India if we take its 100 cr to be correct and if we count all its regional dubbed versions then it may possible challenge Dabangg for second place.
