TDP senior leader Kodela Sivaprasada Rao and MP P Madhu are also seen.â VIJAYAWADA: If industrial development is to be brought about in this coastal region and the erstwhile commercial hub of the State, a special district with Vijayawada and Guntur cities will have to be carved out to exploit the combined potentialities just like Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Also, connectivity in terms of road, air, infrastructure and cyberspace will have to be improved. These were some of the suggestions made at a roundtable organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry with political leaders on âIndustrial growth in Vijayawada zoneâ on Friday. Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, TDP senior leader Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, CII AP former chairman and industrialist Y. Harish Chandra Prasad and others said that there were excellent human resources and rich potential for infrastructure development in this coastal region. If one anchor project came up in the vicinity of Vijayawada and Guntur, it would spur the growth of numerous ancillary units leading to the spiralling development of industry, they felt. Focus on ports While Mr. Rajagopal said development of ports at Machilipatnam, Nizampatnam and Vadarevu was the ideal way to stimulate industrial growth in the region, Mr. Sivaprasada Rao said that concentration of development in the state capital should be stopped so as to remove imbalances in different regions and ensure balanced growth in other potential towns. There were a large number of NRIs from this region who settled in the US and other parts of the world and they were very keen to invest here provided there was a congenial atmosphere, he pointed out. CPI(M) leader P. Madhu, CPI leader Muppalla Nageswara Rao, Praja Rajyam leader Y. Murali Krishna and others reflected their respective party viewpoints. Mr. Madhu wanted the Government to encourage industrialists to set up industries for growth and employment generation but not for entering into the real estate business. CII AP vice-chairman Galla Jayadev said that the Vijayawada region was, indeed, blessed because of the presence of rich human resources and the development of industry would be a smooth affair provided there was will on the part of everybody. CII Vijayawada zone chairman J.S.R.K. Prasad welcomed the gathering, while vice-chairman Y.V. Krishna Mohan made the concluding remarks. |
