Now the Indian customer has to think about it. Which is cheaper, his life or the car!

"Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success." - Complete works of Swami Vivekananda (Vol 1, Chap 6)

While people are still judging whether Tata Nano, the cheapest Indian car can really meet their comfort, a third incident of spontaneous burning of Nano car happened in the national capital. This incident supposed to be a third in a span of just six months has made the consumers to think twice.

The third car on fire was purchased in May 2010. The incident took place in Delhi on Friday and no one was injured since the occupant got out after noticing the fire in the front side of the car.

Earlier a brand new Tata Nano LX caught fire in Mumbai in march 2010 just in one and half hour after delivery. Tata Motors announced compensation of full amount. After investigation Tata Motors revealed that remnants of foreign object were found on the hot exhaust system which lead to combustion.

Later another brand new Tata Nano caught fire in April 2010 when a fleet of eleven Nano cars was driven to a dealer in Ahmadabad for delivery in Vadodara. Investigations revealed evidence of a ruptured fuel line in this case.

There are also some other reports of three cases of fire in the Tata Nano within a span of few days in Delhi, Lucknow and Ahmedabad after a faulty combination switch triggered smoke and burning of plastic parts. We cannot trace unreported incidents.

After these incidents Tata motors tried to allay fears among customers by announcing free inspection or all cars. They are not required to recall all the cars in general, since the faults can be investigated only after the accident in a faulty car. The responsibility is not fixed on the quality control of the Manufacturers. So far the people who escaped the fire are luckier than the Tata motors.

Recall of cars is not mandatory in India, even in cases of technical faults. It is an affront on Indian consumers. Such a free ride is not allowed for manufacturers in US and European car markets. The government of India is at fault rather than the Tata Motors or any other Auto major. If the Government of India offers such a concession which business house will miss the safe minting of money?

Now the Indian customer has to think about it. Which is cheaper, his life or the car!
