JSW drops plan to acquire Brahmani Industries JSW Steel Ltd seems to have opted out of its plan to acquire Brahmani Industries, owned by controversial Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy. "JSW was to sign agreement with us on September 19. But they have not come back on this to date. We are still keen on their proposal," a senior official of Brahmani told DNA. The official said there have also been enquiries from international players to buy the project. "We don't mind waiting for some more time for JSW’s response since we are interested in a deal with them. In case it doesn’t happen, we will start talking to the foreign companies ready for discussions," the official said. Seshagiri Rao, joint managing director and Group CFO, JSW Steel, said he would not like to comment. JSW has conducted due diligence on Brahmani. Technically, the project is still coming up. Though Brahmani officials have been setting deadlines for commercially operating the plant, the schedules were not working out due to a variety of reasons. According to sources, the key attraction in the project was captive iron ore mines allotted to the company near Obulapuram on the AP-Karnataka border. However, Gali Janardhan Reddy, the mine owner and the core promoter of Brahmani, has been in the thick of a controversy over illegal mining of iron ore from the allotted mine area and shipping it overseas.
