Sinna correction... if they are giving RAM in one dimm then that is best. 2 Dimms ante... usually all lappies will have 2 slots... adhi adugutunnavemo ani anukunna. Ex: When I bought my lappy with 1 GB RAM they gave it in 2 Dimms... ante 512 each anamaata. In future if I want to upgrade to 2 GB... I have to replace RAM in both slots... to fit in 1 GB each. This depends on many things. If I give my lappy as is configuration to my friends... they can make this crawl.... I usually do not run all the crap services. On Demand basis lo enable chesthaanu... I know what services are required for a particular product/application. I run a batch file to enable those services that are required. I do not use IE at all. Firefox with script disabled... and allow only those that are required for a particular website. Ila seppukunta pothe... we can write a book  | ||

One advantage with HP or Compaq.. THE BEST SERVICE & WARRANTY. They usually cover upto 1 year bumper to bumper style. And their service time usually is just 1 day. I bought their Compaq lappy on a good deal... mere $400. I had 2 problems, power cord pin malfunctioned first when I requested for service they sent a free pre-paid box shipped via DHL. I sent it say day 1. On Day 3rd I received my lappy back. They have their service center attached to DHL hub (this is what I heard.. but cannot authenticate). Second time I had problem with speakers... that also got fixed and they replaced mother board too. Now its been my 4th year. Manchi deal lo RAM upgrade chesa... full keka undi lappy. I have 2 GB RAM, 64 bit AMD processor. HP is class model from them. I never heard anybody complaining about heat problems with these models. And for battery usage... no body can beat Apple (even in heat dissipation). Battery life depends on usage style. In general... how you maintain your body (food programs evo set sesaavu kadha ;-) ) in the same manner you have to tune your battery too. For best usage you have to charge it to full and let it drain slowly (with out charging)... and recharge it only when the charge remaining is about 5-10%. Thats called gradual discharge. This way it will increase the life of the battery. Usually battery life will go down over a period of time.... I would give damn about the battery as long as it is working fine with power cord. If you still have any questions... shoot. My 2 cents. | ||

If you are not bothered about getting used to new product... I would advise go with Apple Mac Book. There are lot of FREE utilities that will let you install windows on Mac too on a different partition. This will be my first choice. If you really want to stick to Windows lappies only then go with Think Pad. Let me clarify here again... Lenovo is leading manufacturer in Asian subcontinent. IBM (very long back) outsourced their hardware division to Lenovo. So all Think Pads (from IBM brand) were manufactured by Lenovo. Later IBM sold its hardware division to Lenovo. So no more IBM logos on Hardware. Now... Lenovo still manufactures the same Think Pads with almost same quality. But they also have come up with their own brand Lenovo laptops (I guess some Lenovo 3000 series or something). What I have been insisting is do not go for those Lenovo 3000 (or something) series... but but Think Pad only. Again in Think Pad there are multiple series: R, T, X & Table Series (I guess dheeniki kooda XS or XP edo undi... I forgot). R is very basic.. you can easily skip that. Go with T series if you want to. T series lo 41 & 42 are damn good... but there's a newer model too T61.. this is a good buy. But check the warranty part. I would personally prefer HP (kasta class ga untadi) or Compaq (saana seap model idi). HP lo 6000 series anukunta baguntadi. ... (to be continued) | ||
