Family wants to send shooting victim home to India

(03/11/08) BRIDGEPORT - Family members of a University of Bridgeport graduate student are asking for the public's help in sending their injured son back to India. Bherat Kumar was shot on a Bridgeport street in September and has been hospitalized ever since. Kumar's family says he was the victim of an apparent robbery. Kumar slipped into a coma that lasted over four months, but emerged from his comatose state last month.
Now, Kumar's family wants to send him home to India where they believe he will receive better treatment. Their prime reason, at least for now, is to take him back to India to have him get settled down there with the physical therapy and rehabilitation, Kumar family spokesperson Ayyavaru Sivalenka says.
Kumar's family also says the medical bills are almost a half a million dollars.
