I guess you are looking at option strikes with high OI and anticipating spike .. trying to link OI with short interest n what not.. Real game is far complicated than this - the option position you are seeing could be part of a hedged leg - across other strikes or even expiry dates. In calendar spread case shorters can nicely roll over short positions without need to "force cover" (your expected spike scenario ) .. prediction: AMC unlike GME is in SSR list so shorters cannot short AMC, atleast directly however they may still short it using an etf that contains amc https://iborrowdesk.com/report/AMC https://fintel.io/ss/us/amc short data somehow isnt match, but anyhow today it should be a green day for AMC. For options holders, watch out stock price for 10 or 11 and then jump the ship. I would prefer partly selling those options and then using that amount as colleteral to execute and buy the shares in the remaining call contracts.
