Now a certain monk drew near the TathÄgata and told him that two monks groups are in dissension and quarelling. Enough, monks! No quarreling!â Buddha went and said, Monks, quarrels, strifes, contentions, disputes, â all these are unprofitable. But in spite of his admonition he was unable to reunite them. Then, the villagers, resident at Kosambi went to the monastery and failed to see the Teacher, they asked, âReverend Sirs, where has the Teacher gone?â âTo PÄrileyyaka Forest.â âFor what reason?â âHe strove to reunite us, but we would not be reunited.â âDo you mean, Reverend Sirs, that after receiving admission as monks at the hands of the Teacher, you refused to agree when he asked you to do so?â âPrecisely so, brethren.â People said, âThese monks, after receiving admission at the hands of the Teacher, were unwilling to patch up their differences when the Teacher asked them to do so. Itâs all their fault that we were unable to see the Teacher. To these monks, assuredly, we will neither give seats nor offer respectful salutations or other civilities.â And from that time on they showed them not so much as a sign of civility. The monks got so little food that they were nearly famished, and it required only a few days to bring them to a better state of mind. Then they confessed their sins, one to another, asked to be pardoned, and said, âBrethren, we are reconciled; be to us as before.â âReverend Sirs, have you begged the Teacherâs pardon?â âNo, we havenât, brethren.â âWell then, beg the Teacherâs pardon, and as soon as the Teacher has pardoned you, we will be to you as before. If we remain divided as caste, religion, political group etc, then we do not benefit from it. So instead of growth, investors would see this land as a fighting place and will not be interested to do business. So we should all be united and help each other and this will bring growth and progress. Otherwise we remain ycp faction tdp group and jsp party and this caste that class..honey offerings |
