The Claim: BJP leaders (including Ravi Shankar Prasad) remarked that the rupee's exchange rate matched Rahul Gandhi's age when UPA took power,
reached Sonia Gandhi's age, and was "very soon" going to touch Manmohan Singh's age of 80.

The Rate Then: The rupee had slid to around ₹60 per US dollar in mid-2013.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed Sunday to bring back billions of dollars believed to be illegally stashed in banks abroad by Indians to avoid paying tax, amid a furore over "black money".Modi said the money belonged to India's poor and his right-wing government was "on the right track" in efforts to have the funds suspected of being stashed in Swiss and other foreign accounts returned

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and other figures claimed during the UPA government era that a change in leadership would strengthen the rupee to roughly ₹40 against 1 US dollar, alongside lowering fuel prices to ₹35–40

The BJP manifesto has never stated or promised that 1 US Dollar ($1) would equal 1 Indian Rupee (Rs1).

The association between the BJP and the "$1 = Rs1" claim stems from political history, social media rumors, and misattributed statements rather than official party policies.

Judicial reforms are necessary,Modi can't do anything without reforms. All corrupt politicians like Jagan, Sonia/Rahul, CBN etc survived because of judicial loopholes and they spent lakhs of rupees on powerful lawyers. All those willful defaulters all followed same path.

Is there a comparison on this data between Cong & BJP

The government and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) treat the legacy of bad loans originally generated during the UPA era (2004–2014) as part of an ongoing, structural balance-sheet cleanup. As of 2026, gross non-performing assets (GNPAs) across Indian commercial banks have dropped to a multi-decadal low of 1.8% to 1.9%, down from a peak of over 14% in 2018.

Is there a comparison on this data between Cong & BJP.

People expected MORE from Modi, especially after he made TALL promises of bringing back BLACKMONEY from offshore accounts of these defaulters.

After making those promises and after so long being in Power, people getting frustrated and disappointed on this front is REASONABLE.

I haven't heard once instance of getting money on write offs

RBI data show that roughly 15% to 18% of written-off amounts are typically recovered over time

Why Recovery is Slow and Difficult

Legal and Procedural Delays: Recovery through mechanisms like the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and courts involves long litigation processes, appeals, and complex corporate structures. For instance, data shows recoveries through insolvency processes often take years and yield a fraction of the admitted claims.

Asset Realization Challenges: Many large corporate defaults involve stressed assets, bankrupt companies, or disputed collateral where market value drops significantly, leading to low ultimate recovery rates

willful defaulters

Regulated Entities (REs) like banks can pursue compromise settlements or technical write-offs for accounts labeled as willful defaulters or fraud, but these actions do not stop or cancel ongoing criminal proceedings against those debtors

In US also allows Corporate and Financial Institution Settlements

The National Mortgage Settlement: In a historic precedent, the federal government and 49 state attorneys general entered into a $25 billion settlement with the nation's five largest mortgage servicers (including Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo) to resolve allegations of predatory default servicing and "robo-signing" abuses.

CFPB and U.S. Trustee Program: Regulatory bodies like the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the Department of Justice routinely force predatory lenders to settle claims by paying millions in civil penalties and providing debt forgiveness or restructuring directly to the affected consumer accounts.

Teluguhero:

Totally understand Loan-Write off Vs Loan-Waivers.

Basically Modi's policy is giving ability to willful defaulters to settle loans with lenders.

See the below article:

https://scroll.in/article/1051053/modi-government-under-fire -over-new-rules-allowing-wilful-defaulters-to-settle-loans-w ith-lenders

Bottom line, I would like to see that there is a framework that prohibits defaulters enjoying ill gotten wealth while the loan recovery process takes YEARS/DECADES. Meanwhile they all live OUTLANDISH lifestyles.

Only things I find problematic in these Modinomics is writting of bad loans (instead of trying to recover) which is equal to rewarding Loan Defaulters.

Over the past decade, Indian banks have written off ₹16.35 lakh crore in bad loans as part of balance sheet clean-ups, sparking intense political debate regarding recovery rates and corporate accountability.

Understanding Loan Write-Offs vs. Loan Waivers

Not a Waiver: Government and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) officials clarify that a technical write-off does not mean the borrower's liability is forgiven or waived.

Balance Sheet Cleaning: Banks move non-performing assets (NPAs) out of their primary active books after 100% provisioning is met, which helps clear accounting clutter and achieve tax efficiency.

Recovery Continues: Legally, the borrower remains obligated to pay, and banks continue recovery via the Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRT), the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act, and the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT)

But, overall impressive record on economy even though much more could have done, which is STANDARD criticism for ANY government or policies, so no big deal.

Good job Modi!

US chip equipment giant Applied Materials to invest $5 billion in India over 10 years

The US chip equipment major will build a 140-acre research park and expand its India supply chain 10-fold as New Delhi pushes to build a wider semiconductor ecosystem

S chip equipment giant Applied Materials will invest $5 billion in India over the next decade as the country expands its semiconductor ecosystem beyond chip fabrication.

The company announced the investment on Thursday. It will include a new 140-acre research and development park in India to strengthen the company’s R&D capabilities and bring new semiconductor technologies to the country.

Prabu Raja, president of Applied Materials’ Semiconductor Products Group, said the company will also expand its India-based supply chain by 10 times. It plans to bring more of its global suppliers to India as part of the expansion.

Applied Materials’ India workforce has grown fourfold over the past decade to more than 7,000 employees, Raja said. The company will also focus on developing semiconductor talent in India.

The company already has a growing presence in the country, with semiconductor equipment design, testing, validation and R&D capabilities in Bengaluru.

The investment comes as India steps up efforts to build a broader semiconductor industry. The government’s expanded India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 aims to develop the entire semiconductor value chain, including chip design, materials, chemicals, gases, packaging and talent.

The announcement comes shortly before Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi. The three-day event brings together around 600 companies from 52 countries.

Global semiconductor companies including ASML, Lam Research, Tokyo Electron, Teradyne, Infineon, NXP, Micron and Applied Materials are participating in the event.

Under the first phase of India’s semiconductor programme, the government approved 12 projects with a combined investment of around Rs 1.64 lakh crore. The projects cover silicon and compound semiconductor fabs, display fabrication and advanced packaging. Three of these projects have since started commercial production.

The government has also approved 24 semiconductor design projects under its Design Linked Incentive scheme. Another 105 startups and MSMEs have received support for electronic design automation tools.
