Hyderabad lo rendu movies choodatam jarigindi within a period of 18 hours. Both movies were very well made and i personally liked Majili a tad more than Jersey. Majili - i did not have much expectations from the movie. I did not even know such a movie had released until recently. Did not see the trailer too. And with a Naga C movie, better keep the expectations at ground level. I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. The writing and direction were top notch. Shiva Nirvana has really proved himself once more. Gopi Sundar is the best music director out there currently. His music gave the movie a kicker. The background music was also terrific, later i read that Thaman gave the BGM. Pretty neat work. The stars of the movie, barring the director, have to be Samantha and Rao Ramesh. Samantha comes pretty late to the movie but she aces it. Rao Ramesh's scenes with NC have a pathos ridden humour that one could see in Ninnu kori also. There is a certain "middle classiness" that is unique to Telugu cinema that is being lost of late. Shiva brings this out beautifully. The middle class houses, the Railway colony, the production design, is all so beautifully done. The ending felt a bit rushed. NC just about managed without marring things too much. Cricket is just a backdrop here to a love story unlike Jersey where a person's passion for cricket is everything. That gives a segue to our next movie Jersey. Jersey, though etched with a great amount of sensitivity, operates at a very serious level. There is little by nature of "entertainment" and that seems to have hurt the extent of its success. Which is a bit sad. Nani does a terrific job, the climax is awesome and the BGM terrific. The heroine is passable. The father-son relationship shown here is one of the best portrayed in Telugu cinema. The second half though operates on a single track - where Arjun on his return to cricket just goes from one success to another success which was a bit "traditional" to watch. And the tensions between Arjun and Sara after he takes up cricket again, appears forced unlike the way this was handled in Majili. The same "middle classiness" that we saw in Majili is shown here. The production design is excellent. All in all, both were excellent movies and a definite must watch for everyone. |
