Term life insurance is a MUST. Hands down. The OPs question is bit broader than Life Insurance alone. As @156 said in the first reply, its pure negligence OR life style of common folks who come here empty handed and try to find life. After coming to US, first required is the RAINY DAY FUND arrangement. First set up a near immediate liquidable rainy day fund. Google for whats a rainy day fund. It includes but not limited to address any unexpected emergencies (health, foreign trips, accidents etc) at minimum 20K to 100K(depends on your expenses and needs of the family). Keep this fund in a Fixed Deposit(CD) which grows bit by bit but the capital gain is not the motive. Then address high interest loans(if any), Then address bit longer term financial goals. Do these while you maintain a low profile and high personal/financial confidence. If you look back at yourself after 3-4 years, even if you die also, your family can have immediate financial ground to grow and stand further. Without this, just to show off back at India(relatives etc) or just go in super speed in America, people lose the ground(financial ground) and burn their bottom real bad. I too used to wonder those GoFundMe links with those families lived here for decades with College-going kids in America, requesting financial help off the sentiment of the unexpected loss. Still wondering.. why did they burn their family base so bad to be on the road? Its genuine for those kids who comes to US to study, be stable and slowly standing on their feet. They cant take sudden surprise and help make sense. | ||

Are you in India or abroad? if you are in abroad, do speak to insurance companies. It is so important to get life insurance as early as possible. Pre-existing condition like diabeties etc will be happily covered for sure. The longer you leave, the complex it starts to get. | ||

Majority of the cases are pure recklessness. If you are in US for more than a year and you do not have life insurance you dont deserve it. Harsh as it may sound, it doesnt break your bank to purchase life insurance and no excuse in the world is acceptable. I live in UK and if you buy a house/flat, you have to have life insurance compulsory. I dont know if it is the same in US. But like I said, it is not expensive to buy life insurance. Either ways in UK a 500,000 pounds insurance would roughly cost 70-80 pounds a month. Most of the people spend around 45-50 pounds per month these days on a mobile contract for the latest handsets to put it in some perspective. Also, I dont understand the target amounts. 100,000 - 200,000 is common. No one really gives a proper breakdown as to why they need so much money. I understand that there might be a genuine cases at times, but the sheer amount of go-fund campaigns is ridiculous. The amount of gofundme cmapaigns I have seen even for desi IT professionals is beyond me. I only hope and pray that people on this forum, all of them got life insurance. If not get it today and be responsible. | ||

Understanding victims loss but still I got a genuine doubt Why ppl are expecting funds though they are here already a decade or so Or atleast reasonable time where they might have Enough savings Inspite of that why do they need funds from others If victim is recently stepped in USA on h1 or F1 etc It makes sense to help Driving is my PASSION. Ball or Bimmer does not matter. |
