At the same time, always and I mean ALWAYS keep an eye on what your kids are up to on the internet/mobile. (Lost a nephew potentially to Blue Whale a couple of years ago.) Received this email yday from kids elementary school.. Hello, Families - We wanted to send you a special message to make sure you are informed about a recent trend online that is affecting students as young as elementary age. Recently, many parents and students have seen news reports about something called the Momo Challenge. Please be advised, this is a dangerous online activity and students should not engage in it. Unfortunately, some websites and games that our students regularly access, like Fortnite, YouTube, and Facebook, have been hacked by malicious people inserting Momo videos that try to entice children to take part in the challenge. These videos and images are popping up in seemingly innocent children’s videos, like Peppa Pig. The challenges issued to children become increasingly dangerous and in the end, tell them how to hurt themselves and even take their own lives. This story was broadcast on a news report just last night, and today at school we have intervened in many cases of students or groups of students talking about or researching the Momo challenge online. All staff have been made aware of this dangerous trend and are keeping eyes and ears open to notice if students are talking about it. Please be aware that no child should be taking part in anything to do with the Momo Challenge, and we are working to stop any activity we see at school and communicate with parents.
