1. This is only for Economically Backwards in General category. So, BCs and SCs wont come into this. 2. Muslims and Upper castes can only be applicable as they are currently in General category. 3. As of now, 50% general category will be shared by all SC/ST/OBC/General category people. now, this 10% will be exclusive for General category people only. 4.After this bill, General category will be 40% where every citizen of India can compete here. After independence, for the first time, upper castes got reservations. If upper castes doesnt buy it or reject it due to their politicial affiliations, no one can save them. | ||

Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the Reservation Bill to provide a 10 per cent quota to the economically weaker sections, irrespective of their religion or caste, thus including the upper castes as well. Earlier, the House witnessed a heated debate with Finance Minister Aun Jaitley making a strong pitch in favour of the bill and targeting Congress for raising concerns about the bill it had earlier supported. With the new bill, the government hopes to reserve 10 per cent government jobs and seats in educational institutes for the poorer section of the society, irrespective of their religion or caste, thus providing for the upper caste that have traditionally been not entitled to any quota. Many in the Opposition, including Congress, had declared their support for the bill, but also raised concerns on Tuesday during a debate in Parliament. Here are all the latest developments on the Reservation Bill: 1Union Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot introduced the Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha on Tuesday and after hours of debate, the bill was passed with 323 'ayes' and only 3 'nos'. 2Making a strong pitch for the bill and calling out several Opposition parties, including Congress, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said all of these parties had proposed the same reservation in their respective manifestos and should now support the NDA's bill wholeheartedly. 3Quoting from the Congress manifesto, which called for such a quota, Jaitley asked the party to "walk its talk" by supporting the bill, describing it as a test for the opposition party. 4According to a PTI report, the Human Resources Development (HRD) ministry is working out the modalities of implementing the new legislation to decide on the number of seats that need to be increased in the educational institutions. 5Raising questions about the timing of the bill, Congress general secretary K C Venugopal termed it as "lollipop" to the people of the country ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. 6Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati welcomed the reservation move but with a rider. She said that the decision was an "election stunt and political gimmick" ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, but her party welcomes the "immature" move by the government. 7Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu also expressed support for the reservation but said that the BJP was only doing this to divert people's attention from the Rafale deal ahead of the elections. 8Brahmins, Rajputs (Thakurs), Jats, Marathas, Bhumihars, trading castes, Kapus and Kammas among other upper castes are likely to benefit from this reservation.
