With RSUs, you are taxed when you receive the shares. Your taxable income is the market value of the shares at vesting. mari ee lekkana.. I generally go with whether i like the price its trading at or not...short term vs long term capital gains tax kante that makes a much bigger difference imo | ||

If you are well into middle of a band, or over the highest Band.. along with the Tax you save, you should factor in - LOCK IN ( i.e time value of $ ) i.e i have 10k$ in hand, if i save 1k$ by putting into scheme, but the lockin is 3 yrs.. can i invest the 9k$ lumpsum ( 10k$ - 1k$ ) elsewhere and recover the 10% tax i paid... i,e i should make 10% *1.3 times in Equity ( assuming 30% short term tax on equity earning ) this Time value will be crucial as you have more free cash IN HAND.. i,e the 10k$ in hand.. brahma satyam jagan-mithyä jivo brahmaiva näparah | ||

The marginal benefit you get, by locking urself in Tax saving scheme - it decreases as your Gross income increases.. i.e.. rich fellows wont go for ELSS etc to save tax on 1lac you instead look for Real Estate to get tax benefit, biz,e tc or you pay tax and instead aggressively chase returns thru Mutual funds etc.. i am citing examples.. hope i make sense.. brahma satyam jagan-mithyä jivo brahmaiva näparah | ||
