The cultural opposition to this is something I dont want to discuss. That is the primary Trump and alt-right agenda. we cannot convince them anyway. But the other aspects to it were being ignored. When a country is running at nominal full employment, it needs the work force. Sometimes there will be seasonal uptick in employment needs. it will not be practical to go thru laws and changes. This is not as simple legal argument as many believe. Adjustment in law were always done that lead to some people getting advantage being right person at right time. I will add more a little later as I have to step out now. But one thing that gives similar perspective is GM bankruptcy in late 2000's . It is not the gas prices that cost it. it was the pension plans that led them to bankruptcy. more people getting benefits in comparison to people contributing. There is a paper written about capital structure of GM before going bankrupt that highlights this concept. In a macro economy everything is linked. you cannot make change to one with out planning for countermeasures. The hardline immigration measures will have consequences.
