In 2014 when NDA government was formed in center excise duty on diesel was 3 rs and petrol was 9 rs. When international crude prices began to fall central government took it as opportunity to bridge fiscal deficit gap and increased excise duty on diesel on petrol(21 INR ) and diesel(17 INR) there by consumers could not enjoy benefits of falling crude prices.

Now with crude prices hovering around 80$ and expected to touch 100$ I think before any backslash from people and political parties its time to cut excise duty by 2 Rs every time crude oil price raises by 5 $ from here on.

Instead of depending on economists and bureaucrats who simply say inflation is still 4 or 5% and this cut is unwarranted but with political scenario heating up its time to take this measure.
