Of the five grounds cited by the Congress-led Opposition group that has moved to impeach the Chief Justice of India (CJI), two are centered around the so called Prasad Educational Trust case. One says there’s a suggestion that CJI may have been involved in illegal gratification, and asks for investigation. Another says CJI heard motions on this case he should have recused himself from. The third and fourth reasons deal with, respectively, a seemingly unproven and minor allegation, and a land deal case that’s well known and ended with the CJI returning the plot of land in question. The case over the 2.7 acre disputed Ayodhya site claimed by both Hindus and Muslims will be taken up by the Supreme Court on March 14. The judiciary is well equipped to handle very difficult matters. Not everyone will always agree with the judiciary.
