This is probably what actually happened. Valmiki or maybe a set of writers over a period of time created this epic called Ramayana based on what life was all about that day.

Now dont say that there are floating stones .. It could be that Valmiki is a good writer and has used then contemporary situations/places/instances to write a very good story called ramayana .. so now we will see some of the things written in that novel..
