This is what TCAS does....when it see two planes on collusion course...it will take over the controls temporarily and steers the planes in different directions... I believe TCAS is mandatory in all the planes now... | ||

mid 90s - here was a horrible crash over northern India a middle eastern passenger plane and russian or former soviet nation transport plane collided and every one killed big onus was on improving the airplane alert system technology and reinforcing the last minute maneuver ( they have to steer right, one theory was both planes did not steer (right) away from each other in above ) also, ATC has to constantly monitor skies to keep the places apart by a couple of thousand feet at least or similar | ||
