Some folks are just more passionate and emotional and some are more stoic. All of us know people who don't even cry at close people's funerals. It is not like their hurt is lesser, they express it differently. It is not like Nadal does not get hurt, he might be burying his head in his pillow and crying all night. Over the last few years though Federer has redeemed his reputation big time by winning a lot of these close five setters and showing nerves of steel. Earlier the weight of expectations was too much on him and the pressure of GOAT-hood is not easy to carry. Now as that weight is no longer so heavy and his GOAT-hood is assured, he is able to play with more abandon. | ||

federer was always sentimental.. infact I started watching tennis in 2004 coz I found it funny winners were crying ..he cried for every grandslam win in the initial years.. Nadal is mentally tough.i have never seen him cry throughout his career..even in 2012 au open it was really tough match but he didn't show emotion..that's why Nadal is a great saver of breakpoints and federer has a bad record even though he created more breakpoints.. federer is not mentally as strong as nadal | ||

We had our darkest moments like Wimbledon 2008 after which many thought Federer may even retire, just like Bjorg did at around 26 years, with 12 slams. We thought he may never cross Sampras 14 Slams. But we underestimated his hunger and his sheer love for the game. He came back and at 2009 Wimbledon he crossed Sampras. From 2009 Wimbledon to 2012 Wimbledon, he scrambled together another 2 Slams. And when he won his 17th Slam, in 2012, we were more than happy with what we had. Games after that were never going to imbued with the same tension and when he lost in Wimbledon to some journeymen, we prodded him to retire. Again we underestimated his love for the game. And very few have so many Slams after the age of 30. And when he too a break for 6 months in 2016, we thought we had seen the last of his Grace (Grace is a noun here). Well he again showed us Federer 3.0 over the last one year, winning 3 Slams, reaching 20. I am sure he has a couple of Slams more under his belt now. | ||

Certainly! .. the last 1 year has been quite a redemption of sorts.. considering how many times he got close over the last 5 yrs to only fall short at the end.. going by the pace at which he was going when at peak.. 20 was always my bare minimum.. and with the rise of Djoker that expectation was almost lost.. that's why it feels surreal of how it all transpired since last yr's AO Open..  | ||
