I am not sure about that provision, may be its just time given to surrender the passport and in the eventuality that somebody did use the original passport due to whatever reason there is an associated penalty with it. Surrendering passport ki $250 charge cheyadame is a stupid thing not sure why this has not been brought to the govt's notice and asked for changes in it similar to POI and IOC cards. so ee following scenario ok naa? 1. Take oath and US passport 2. Use India passport for travel (use this with the airlines too), not US passport 3. Renunciate/surrender passport in India 4. While boarding the flight in India use US passport ( update details with airlines?) Ekkada surrender cheyyaali India lo? Tirupati lo regional passport office undi, akkada chaalaa leka do we need to travel to Chennai or some other big city? Do airlines allow us to switch passport data in their system for the return trip? I thought we can't change anything except frequent flyer account preferences on the return ticket. on the oath day, there will be folks to get your passport application, apply on the same day within 10 days you will get US passport. After that take same day indian visa if needed. Meanwhile, you can start renunciation process, after you get renunciation you apply for oci. Renunciation + Oci (these two are separate processes for some states) takes upto two months. If your indian consulate permits, you can do renunciation + oci together that might save 3-4 weeks. If you show that your renunciation + oci is pending in process then on arrival visa also can be granted in India as per the guidelines but not sure if any one tried this option. | ||

call local Indian embassy and you can get visit visa in one day for six months single/multiple entry. if u r lucky might get 10 yrs visit visa to india (I tried but could not get). later when you apply for OCI u have to give up Indian Passport. Not sure if this is required to get visit visa (as I forgot). Mostly no need. check in person if u can and get visit visa. matter of couple hours.
