TRUE MEANING OF SECULARITY : Respecting all the religions. Doesn't mean that one name or two (or a dozen names) are going to be "REMOVED"!!! If India is supposed to be a secular state, I don't understand why would people from other religions would object to a particular name from Hindu religion. ME ME ME ME ME ME... true but for us it's a peculiar problem that we have been divided based on religion even though we didn't approve religious countries..so it's become imperative to prove others that we are a secular nation. Once check Pakistan newspapers and their literature they still refer to India as hindu nation.. Also I think American declaration of Independence lo they refer to no discrimination based on religion | ||

Vandemataram is a national song..as such it has no significance on its own..it's just recognised for it's patriotic fervor..I don't think anyone is compelled to sing it or respect it unlike our national anthem.. As for patriotism and nationalism is considered you are partially right coz right now you are enjoying your freedoms coz of nationalism..so once it's gone I don't think you will say the same | ||

Am I the only atheist who would vote to re-evaluate "Bande Mataram" being the national song? Given that three Godesses are referred to in the context - Kali, Durga and Jagaddhatri? Is it not possible to choose a completely secular theme for a national song? Must it harp a religious context? Feel free to tag others who, you think, can add to the topic.
