One thing that strikes out, among many, is the data on obesity. South India leads in obesity stats in terms of %age of population with BMI > 25. Among all the big states, AP is the highest, followed by other South Indian states. Not sure if this a byproduct of our economic development. Typically higher income states have higher %age of overweight people. I don't think so as Maharashtra and Gujarat have low BMIs compared to us. Is this due to our rice eating culture?? |
