We had agile and market ready organizations like RINL,LIC, SAIL, MTNL, SBI, BOB,EIL,ONGC etc when compared to how they were until the mid-late eighties. And LIC until a few years back was giving the INGs and Chubbs a run for thier money!!! Same with SAIL,ONGC and RINL whcih actually won projects abroad or exported thier produce to other countries by setting up thier offices. So why change this? Yes - rectifications are required - corrections are required - Do it. But why dismantle these great organizations? | ||

The first time divestment happenned was in the early 90s - and I remember vividly - the employees were involved in the process! Transfer of technology, Employee protection funds were hotly discussed topics in companies like Maruti, CMC etc. And in some cases,Government actually brought in new management into SAIL, EIL etc to make them on par with the ABB s and L&Ts And mistakes happenned initially and the Govt learnt and rectified as they went along!!! Maybe those days were different and it is not fashionable to speak about those wonderful days! And compare what happenned at that time to what is happening now and question the present dispensation! | ||

DIvestment and Privatisation is not wrong. BUt when the Government wants to shut down BSNL. why not invite competive bidding from the global players like Duetsche telecom, BT , ask them to forma JV with a local company and bid. We are questioning the handover of the assets built over the last 5/6 decades to some one line Reliance. Same with Vizag Port Trust or any other PSU. Where is the transparency. Why not invite large Engineering companies like ABB, Siemens etc to be part of the game? And when Adanis and Ambanis take over these strategic assets, they are converting majarity of the existing employees into part time / contract labour. If some one is using a Govt employee as a cook, then action needs to be taken against taht person rather than SHADY PRIVATIZATION of the entire PSU which may have a few 1000 people :-) | ||

good deal - govt should have NO business running companies....privatize everything including railways my Dad worked in govt..i saw technical individuals (like drafters) being used as COOKS and lackeys.....wtf should a tax payer pay for someone who's working as someone's lackey? it's beyond ridiculous | ||

Correction DCI is being handed over to Adani Shipyard will be handed over to ADAG Port Trust already partially handed over to Adani There is a legal battle between HPCL, Navy on one side and Adani on the other on toll payment for the new channel. All of these were great enterprises, provided employment to 1000s of people and are being systematically handed over to corporations with no sleazy experience | ||

During his recent visit to Vizag, he went and met the employees of Dredging Corp Of India , who were protesting the sale of DCI to Anil Ambani group. DCI is a profit making PSU slated to be a Navaratna and employs 1000+ People with Vizag has HQ. Recently a lot of operations of the Vizag Port Trust have been handed over to Adani. Hope Pawan Kalyan takes that up too. |
