It was a half day off from the drudgery of meetings, reviews and file pushing for the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, Ministers and top bureaucrats on Thursday as they heard in rapt attention about the benefits of "pranic healing". The Grandmaster Choa Kok Sui, a Filipino of Chinese descent, gave a live display of the power of `Pranic healing' to the packed gathering when he instantly cured an Additional DG of Police, a senior IAS officer, and a businessman of chronic pains, all within a few minutes. No magic cure this, pranic healing is the process of transferring the vital energy or life force from the healer to the patients without physical contact. Mr. Mahendra L. Kumawat, Addl DG (Law & Order), was suffering from severe pain which prevented him from raising his right hand above his head following a severe reaction caused after taking a vaccine. However, the pain was gone and Mr. Kumawat was able to clap his palms over his head after the Grand Master `passed on energy' to him by waving his hands around him for about two minutes. Next it was the turn of Mrs. Janaki R. Kondapi, Principal Secretary, R & B, to be cured of her migraine, while the back and neck pain of Mr. Poddar, a prominent city businessman, vanished immediately as the audience watched, spell-bound, about the power of `pranic healing'. Mr. Sui made it clear that pranic healing was not a panacea for all ills though it could help tackle epidemics like gastroenteritis. Earlier, Mr. Naidu, his Cabinet colleagues, Mr. Y. Ramakrishnudu and Mr. K. Vijayarama Rao, and senior IAS and IPS officials participated in the interactive session involving transfer of energy from one hand to another and receiving energy from Mr. Sui. Somewhat irritated at the Ministers seated in the front row for sitting with their hands and legs crossed, Mr. Sui said they would experience nothing if they were not receptive. The Master, who is the founder of the World Pranic Healing Foundation, also gave a lecture on effective man management to the IAS officers saying that knowledge, talent and intelligence would not serve the purpose. He gave seven principles such as love and wisdom, `active intelligence' and the ability to ensure harmony in conflict for execution of knowledge. Impressed by Mr. Sui's presentation, the Chief Minister immediately announced that a centre for pranic healing would be established at the Dr. M. Channa Reddy Institute for Human Resources Development at Jubilee Hills. He also urged the Master to train Government doctors and nurses and said that in spite of the Government spending nearly Rs. 2,000 crores on health annually, there was dissatisfaction all around. He said the Master had convinced the audience about the effects of pranic healing but the problem was how to implement them. Mr. Naidu disclosed that Britain's DFID had offered to give a grant of Rs. 50 crores to the AP Government for starting a Centre for good governance.
