Neither of us did PhD in CS, we are in biomed. PhD is not a "course" to complete, its a long term committment involving lots of hardwork, patience and time. If your wife is really interested in pursuing it and understands whats she is getting into (for example wont be able to fully focus on kids if you have any), encourage her - but dont do it just for visa and greencard. Because there is no guarantee that her PhD would be productive enough to qualify her for GC. Yes publications are needed for graduation (at least one) and depending on the program and university the credit hour requirement ranges from 60-80. If you are aiming for EB1 GC through PhD, its going to take a long time even after PhD. Length of the PhD depends on the department and university - it can range from 4 to 6 years.

MSIS complete chesindi with score of 3.75

Naku thesindhi cheptanu. Its better to do PhD when you are doing Masters. Chala univs lo 30 credits for Masters and 72 for PhD. So some people opt to do PhD. Oka time frame emi undadhu. Unless you are interested in doing PhD, dont opt for it as sometimes it is extremely frustrating.
