Thanks a lot for your prayers. So many donors reached out to us saying they are praying for Anshu's quick recovery. No words to describe your love and support. The surgery is completed today. It took around 8 hours and the doctors have removed 60-70% of the tumour. Anshu is still under anaesthesia and expected to be awake by tomorrow afternoon. | ||

Thanks to each and everyone for the overwhelming response to save our little champ. The parents are feeling strong knowing that their kid has blessing from many people and he is included in their prayers. We received an update from Dr.David Low, (Neurosurgeon) that the main surgery will be conducted on Friday morning 8:30 AM instead of Saturday as planned. Hospitalization is not free in Singapore, but heavily subsidized (75-90%) for citizens. Had the child been a citizen, the bill size would be far lesser. He is obviously not a citizen which could otherwise be mentioned on the bill. In the tax invoice, the child was admitted to A1 ward, which is private ward and not subsidized. Many local citizens call it atas (rich people's ward) and do not opt A1 ward unless they have prior hospitalization insurance that covers the bill. It is a difficult decision to take which ward to admit to, but I always suggest to go for the cheapest when you do not know the treatment duration and costs involved. The C ward where one of my kin (despite having insurance coverage for A1) was recently admitted is much better than anything I have seen in India. I hope parents (having been here in Singapore where medical costs are known to be high) should have taken hospitalization plan/insurance since the premium is very cheap like 300 SGD per annum that covers almost everything. There are no exclusions in the health insurance (similar to obamacare). This once again tells the importance of having health insurance for everyone in the family and some term coverage for parents until the children grow up. | ||

very sad... The company insurance covered only less than a half portion of the initial(Hospitalization + Biopsy) $40,000 hospital bill. Through financial help from family, friends, and colleagues, his family was able to partly defray costs for Deepansh’s hospitalization. The family still has to bear remaining expenses for further major surgery to the brain & Chemo and that could easily cost between $200,000 to $250,000 SGD only citizens/permanent residents get subsidized medical care in singapore...for others employer policy only.... | ||
