I turned off the wifi on router and only use access point
Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein

looks like if u cross -80dbm/90dbm,it may siwtch. checked the signal, the farthest i am going from my primary router is -72dbm which offers basic reliable packet delivery. at what point do you see a switch in your device? when u get a chance test and let me know

Use Net Analyzer app to check signal strength. Put it on the phone (I use iOS version, see android link below) and walk around the house. You should see the phone switching from primary to secondary as you walk away from primary router.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.techet.net analyzerlite.an&hl=en

I haven't experienced what you are seeing though. Search for "wifi roaming" for troubleshooting.

Simba:

Primary router gives IP to all clients (DHCP turned on).

that is all done, my question is not abt configuration. its about making device switch to a better SSID (with same name) instead of clinging onto a moderate signal from the prime router

I use this tutorial for configuration.

https://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Access_Point

Primary router gives IP to all clients (DHCP turned on).

Secondary routers are HARDWIRED to primary router (via a switch).

Each secondary router is placed on different floor/area away from primary to ensure you have strong signal across the home.

For each Secondary router (access point in this case) - turn off DHCP, configure the SSID same as primary, use same wifi authentication, change the channels to avoid interference.

DONE!!

Rajusk:

NOT HAVE the same SSID

how do u detect devices then? for example u have a roku player in first floor, you are in second floor connected to wifi using ur phone, now u come own and use roku app as a remote, it will not detect the player if its on a different ssid..knowing what network its connected is not important to me..i can always understand by looking at the signal

I set up an accesss point in my home network with same SSID as the main wifi router. however a device(say phone) doesnt switch to access point if i roam in the house. i believe it has to lose the first connection(router) completely to get on to access point. is there a way this switch can be controlled? like pick always the best signal

I was reading about it the other day..it is not preferable to have the same SSID for the extender as the router..because you never know which one your device is connecting to..

over the weekend I switched my extenders to NOT HAVE the same SSID as the router ..
