Sleep is a problem for some autistic kids. Nightmare for both kids and parents. Right now I'm awake after returning from hospital at 11 since last two hours as my kid is awake. It was such a big problem 3 years ago. It has gotten much better now that she's going to school and having therapy everyday and cutting milk completely. We've observed that she wakes up like this during fall season. Last year I remember same thing happened. Not sure why. She sleeps with us and our room is pitch dark. | ||

yes posttax. Pretax and employer based plans are not deductible as you know. For us third party insurance is better because of low oop and deductibles. The rumor is that 10% limit will be waived for special kids medical care...this comes from a cpa...but it's just a rumor for now. I have been waiting to hear this. When my younger kid was being discharged from hospital in 2014, we needed nursing coverage 24x7. At that time, I started with Social Security - they recognized that kid had disability but denied coverage due to financial status. Next I went to medicaid, it was denied for the same reason. Then I went to county and applied for something called CHIP or something, it was denied again due to financial status. So I got ready to move to PA. But by God's grace insurance accepted to provide nursing. Then last year one of our nurses was applying for govt job and told us to try something called MLTSS. We applied for it and as long as she has ventilator and tracheostomy, g-tube etc they would provide nursing - irrespective of parent's financial status. they only looked at what the kid has on their name. limit is $2k assets. Now, I applied for medicaid earlier this year for autistic kid and they denied saying she's not eligible for this MLTSS program. How did you apply for medicaid for your kid? I mean on what diagnosis? What is the exact application you filled out? What does performcare exactly provide? I read about them and didn't seem applicable for my case. My insurance provides ABA provision, but not all providers are accepting and as such we are stuck with couple of clinics whose therapists we are not finding that beneficial for our kid. | ||

SO do all the DAN and functional medicine doctors in the US. Comparing doctors is immature, but my point is that US has better supporting system and resources for tackling ASD than any other country. On research front too, US is not "catching up", US is the pioneer and other countries follow, probably because the ASD incidence is highest here. I am not saying its perfect, but its better than any other country. Urimi, there are bunch of books I have read - I will post the names later. they don't have a magic bullet as well. but more a mix of DAN doctors here. rely on vitamin n mineral supplements n diet which did wonders to my kid as opposed to pediatricians pointing to a dead end other than therapies. he attacks the problem from all angles without wasting time and more importantly counsels parents straight up. Hyd velli 3-4 docs ni kalisi he is better ani cheppina friends unnaru yes, US is fast catching up now. even now lot of insurances don't cover autism therapies. mine didn't cover aba until last year since therapies are not proven stuff, and i had one of the best plans. will read the books you mentioned. read the book neurotribes by Steve silberman regarding autism history, it's a good one | ||

I am not sure which findings you are referring to but its hard for me to believe it as a fact. The reason USA is better is because of multiple reasons: Commitment of the government in passing favorable legislations, free special education, insurance coverage for ABA, OT and ST, availability of training opportunities for the special education teachers, and fairly rapidly growing therapy centers etc. I personally know atleast 3 parents who moved from EU to USA for seeking ASD treatment. Also, ABA was developed in the US. Thanks everyone. Yesterday they went to another doctor and received the following advice. 1. Yes, there seem to be some problems. 2. Stop feeding milk, milk products, maidha based stuff, packed stuff such as biscuits, corn flakes etc for a period of 40 days and then come for a check up. 3. Spend time with the kid and try to talk to him all the time even if he doesn't respond. 4. Don't send to playschool now. (In Hyderabad) 5. Will diagnose after this period and devise the next course of action. Mav, Symptoms I have seen that struck me as odd. I had no clue what Autism was all about. 1. Zero interaction with us. Even with the parents. Forget language, there should be some kind of an acknowledgment when we talk to him. That was not there. 2. Doesn't miss his parents at all. Even in unfamiliar circumstances. It is almost like "OK they are gone. So what?". 3. Does the same thing over and over again. Ippudu retrospective gaa avi symptoms laa anipisthunnaayi. | ||

Annai, AFAIK there's no one reason for this. What I think is could be genetic+environmental. 1. Awareness, environmental factors 2. Nope. Lot of kids are now being diagnosed. I was researching for facilities in India via lot of forums and found quite a few parents looking for help. 3. India lo AFAIK no proper treatment options. I mean, whole India lo hanful of BCBA supervisors unnaaru. And they supervise their centers in multiple cities. From a medical perspective, West better. Family help + social life antey desam emo mari. 4. Can't recollect the names I have researched. Bangalore/Pune lo decent ani chadivanu. 6. I don't know how to manage, but what i saw within my family when I visited desam was relatives were willing to help. Neighbor's kids were playing with my kid even though my kid was not responding properly. May not be the case everywhere. | ||
