2nd show choosa....Frankly DB/webworld lo project chesinantha bad em ledu. Whats it? A cat and mouse game between an IB Data Analytics officer and a Psychotic Serial Killer. The Good: - Pace of the movie - 1st Half n Interval Bang - Villian's characterization - Key confrontation scenes between Hero n Villian Not So Good: - Last 30 min of the movie - Expectations set by trailer - Typical Arava Paithyam - Heroine's role Analysis: After the early morning murder of 'Spyder' by overenthusiastic online critics, expectations werent really high. Mahesh Babu was his usual self. But he isnt projected as larger than life as we are used to seein. He is a simple Data Analytics officer who goes out of line to help ppl. In the process he confronts a Pyscho Killer and is desperate to nab him. The entire 1st half is extremely racy. Doesn't waste much time except for the jaaga bokka Heroine thread. While the 'arava paithyam'is in full flow in the flashback episode, it does well to establish what a dangerous psychopath the villian is. You genuinely feel terrified of some of his 'professional work'. Pre Interval and the Interval bang itself is decent enough. At this point you come out wondering why there is even a negative talk in the first place. 2nd half also breezes through till the Villian is captured. The scenes building to nabbing him are interesting enough. And then, the director loses his grip over the film. A genuinely terrifying Psychopath Serial Killer is suddenly turned into a normal villian in the last hf n hr. There are no more puzzling cat n mouse games between Hero n him. Jst like tht he walks in front of the hero in an attempt to give us a feel good climax. There was so much scope for real good crazy plans by the Psychopath but it's jst wasted. He simply stops bejng a challenge anymore to the Hero. However, despite a pretty avg climax, the movie felt ok and a one time watch by a big group of us who went. Mahesh Babu was his usual self of looking good and acting decently. But director wasted to utilize his timing. Surya was pretty good. The child villian was crazies of the lot. R3st all nothin much to talk. I believe many killed this movie without even giving it a chance. If you watch it without much expectation, u might even like it. As such, it felt like an avg-abv avg fare. Bottomline: Spyder is not the spy thriller it was promised to be...works well in most parts and climax seems a letdow. But it's an one time watch. 3*** Stars/ 5 |
