Lets start with the least rated reviews to keep the detractors happy.

Full Hyd - 4.5/10

On NTR:

every moment envisioned to illicit genuine laughs and every scene of posturing laced with Rajamouli's rejected weapons, Jr NTR tries to put his best foot forward in an attempt to make the audience empathise with his many characters. The commitment is admirable.

Bottomline:

This movie hit the theatres at the most opportune of times. With the big holiday week of Vijayadasami on the horizon, a superstar in the cast, and augmented by said superstar's hugely popular turn as the host of Bigg Boss, it had an enviable list of advantages checked.

As we all know, that kind of expectation is rarely if ever fulfilled.

Great Andhra - 2.75/5

On NTR:

NTR who has already proved many times that he can pull off any role has done three varied roles with so much ease here. Even though this is the first time that he has done three roles in a movie, NTR has not shown any discomfort. There is not much difference in the appearances of three roles but the performance in all these three roles is faultless. But NTR shows his true strength in the role of Jai. His performance is the pillar to the movie. This is one of his best performances in his career.

Bottom Line:

On the whole, “Jai Lava Kusa” has nothing much to offer beyond NTR’s terrific performance as Jai. It may go down well with the fans and the festival season might help it in the collections, but as a movie it is so-so.

The Hindu - 3/5

On NTR:

This film is NTR’s coveted stage and he walks the talk, enjoying every theatrical move.NTR as Jai or Ravana brings the ominous persona necessary to the character, rising above the many slow motion shots and heavy background score. He makes the stutter look natural than a rehearsed, over-emphasised one.

Bottomline:

Jai Lava Kusa gets predictable and even melodramatic, but NTR holds it together with a class act.

India Today - 3/5

On NTR:

Jr NTR in the titular role gives one of his finest performances. He's terrific as Jai and his portrayal of the character, who's required to stammer a lot, is certainly not pretentious.

Bottomline:

you could say Jai Lava Kusa is a preposterous film. But it's far better than a supposed social drama like Janatha Garage.

Firstpost - 3/5

On NTR:

Right from the beginning of the film, it’s evident that the focus is on the variations which NTR Jr brings to the table to each of these roles. The roles of Lava and Kusa could have been performed by any other actor, but the fact that NTR Jr does all three makes it special. In one scene, as Kusa, he’s bursting with energy, and a moment later, we begin to instantly sympathise with Lava, whose honesty and straight-forward nature often land him in trouble. But the most intense and complex stuff is left for NTR Jr as Jai, whose presence makes all the difference to the film. He stutters in the middle of his lines, but that doesn’t take away the intensity in his performance; he breaks down when he comes face to face with his past; he makes evil look stunning. NTR Jr is one of the finest actors in contemporary Telugu cinema. Period.

Bottomline:

There are, in fact, three reasons to watch the film: NTR, NTR, NTR. Perhaps there’s no other film in recent times which celebrates an actor to this extent, and it expects us to do the same. Because beyond this, nothing else seems to matter.

Idlebrain - 3/5

On NTR:

NTR proves yer again why he is the best actor. He comes up with fabulous work in three characters. He is adorable as Lava who is a righteous guy. His portrayal of Kusa character is entertaining. It’s Jai who walks away with honors. I have seen people clapping and whistling more for Jai introduction than Lava and Kusa. Being a mainstream hero and doing a negative character and getting such an absolute response for negative character is a dream come true for any actor. Jai Lava Kusa must be the most satisfying film for NTR as an actor. It gives him a lot of scope for exploit his unlimited acting skills.

Bottomline:

Plus points of the film are basic story idea and Jai character. On the flip side, a racy narration and an interesting screenplay would have made a lot of difference. We need to wait and see how movie lovers embrace the movie.

Telugu 360 - 3/5

On NTR:

It is out and out one man show of NTR. One-man show is loosely used term these days, but for this flick it is truly appropriate. With 80%- 85% screen time of the hero and especially with every frame showcasing twins or triplets – is nothing less than a nightmare for any actor with any kind of calibre. To make things even more complex for the actor, the characters are positioned differently and contrasting in nature. We should appreciate the struggle they undertook during this process. NTR showcased his acting prowess as JAI, LAVA and KUSA. It is treat to watch him perform eloquently. As Jai, he reminds us of his Simhadri days, as Kusa he recaps Chary of Adhurs.

Bottomline:

Jai Lava Kusa’ has a blend of entertainment and heroism. If you’re fan of NTR, you will love this film. This film offers a decent comedy entertainment throughout despite the clichéd story line. It is a one-time watch for regular moviegoers.

Indian Express - 3/5

On NTR:

Its most important and the biggest plus is its lead actor. NTR has excelled at performing all three roles, while effortlessly switching between Jai, Lava and Kusa showing the stark contract in their characters.

Bottomline:

Bobby has whipped up an interesting emotional drama packing it with a lot of entertaining factors that has overshadowed some logical shortcomings in the writing.

123Telugu - 3.25/5

On NTR:

Jai Lava Kusa clicks mainly because of NTR. The star hero just nails the film with his performance. He is super menacing as the evil Jai and showcases the subtleness as Lava and is knotty as Kusa. The way he has showcased variations in all his roles is surely worth a mention and proves what an actor he is. Special mention should go to the way he executes his stammering act.

Bottomline:

On the whole, Jai Lava Kusa is NTR’s one-man show. The film is surely a treat for fans as they will love Jai’s negative role in particular. Even though the film has an old school storyline and slow narration in places, the way it has been showcased ends up as a good watch for fans and an average watch for the regular audience. All we suggest you is to lower your expectations before you watch the film.

Times of India - 3.5/5.

On NTR:

Jr NTR has played the three characters of Jai, Lava and Kusa with consummate ease. He is absolutely believable as the mild mannered Lava, the cunning Kusa and the menacing Jai.A good actor makes you overlook any shortcomings in any technical department and that's what Jr NTR does with his portrayal, especially that of Jai.Jr NTR has once again proved with this film what a fine actor he is.

Bottomline:

Ultimately, Jai Lava Kusa has everything that one expects in a star film — comedy, action, drama, romance, etc.
