Also, after his speech on objectification of women, its hypocritical that he does the very same thing in the opening scene asking his friend which women wud lay with him just becoz they showed interest.

Good review. But why do you assume people will emulate the hero?

We have hangover from our puranas that lead male.character is HERO and he should be emulated

This movie is the story of an individual. Nobody will or should follow his footsteps

Physical needs kosam kontha mandhini select cheskuntadu ani characterize chesadu kadha it's clear..aa heroene kosam kooda andhuke trying chesthadu..ofcourse vadiki appeal cheyanollani just stories ki perimitham chesthadu..i don't see any mistake here for given AR character.

It is contradictory.

His friend meanwhile gives an explanation that he isn't having physical with any of the women coming to his house, trying to depict him as a loyal lover. On the other hand, Arjun's almost committing with two women for the same.

Also, after his speech on objectification of women, its hypocritical that he does the very same thing in the opening scene asking his friend which women wud lay with him just becoz they showed interest.

For a bold movie such as this, there was no need for ambiguity. It cud hav been ok for the Hero to be flawed instead of stopping short of real boldness.

Infact, I wud say the Kumari 21F was a much bolder film with a better content than overhyped AR.

Redclaw777:

Arjun happening to see her in a park felt ridiculous. Add to that the movie shockingly stereotypes the Heroine when she says she wasn't touched by her husband which makes her 'pure' and the baby is Arjun's! Stories don't get much more cliched than that.

Most silliest climax ever in history for a very good film anukuntaa ..

----SPOILER ALERT-----

TFI has been the pioneer and trendsetter for a lot of genres - Historical, Mythological, Comedy, Commercial Entertainers, etc. However, people tend to stereotype TFI to only commercial and that we don't do 'realistic' and 'meaningful' cinema, whatever that means.

We always had directors who bucked the non-commercial way. Vishwanath/RGV/T Krishna/Balachander....

Sandeep Vanga is the latest entrant to that club.

The Good:

First thing that strikes you is the raw intensity of the lead character. No punches are pulled. Emotions are on display in the purest form and the movie promises to enter into unchartered territories. Storytelling follows a non-linear format. For the most part, you are made curious for the Hero as to what he would end up doing next.

The BGM is one of the best in recent times. Suits the Lead perfectly.

The funny dialogues are as good as they come. They are sprinkled throughout the film to ensure you don't feel the lengthy runtime.

Great Characterizations and subsequent casting.

The Not So Good:

Consistency and pacing of the plot. What starts in an intense, visceral tone simply drags and mellows down towards the end. Especially the thread after Arjun is suspended as a doctor. The movie heroine and Arjun thread was wasted.

Importantly, The director promises us a hard hitting film which wouldn't follow conventions till the very end. And we trust his narration.

But towards the climax, the director for some God forbidden reason decides to give a happy tame ending to an otherwise bold movie which wasn't afraid to tread new paths. Whether the Hero had affairs with other women is confusing. He pays women to listen to his stories but almost does sm random woman in the opening scene? WTF! The entire subplot of the Hero and Heroine not being aware of each other for 9 months and Arjun happening to see her in a park felt ridiculous. Add to that the movie shockingly stereotypes the Heroine when she says she wasn't touched by her husband which makes her 'pure' and the baby is Arjun's! Stories don't get much more cliched than that.

The Ugly:

In a time where Drug Abuse is a major concern among youth worldwide and more so within our own cities, the Director is absolutely irresponsible in the way he showcases Drug Usage and Alcoholism.

Here you are trying to depict a Hero who is uber cool, brilliant, a great attitude and anger management issues. Flawed, but impressive enough for legions of youth to follow him. You then weaken his character by making him crazed because he doesn't get the girl. And throughout the movie, the only recurrent theme running in loop mode is his alcoholism and drug abuse issues.

Fine, we understand that he has resorted to them not being in a great state of mind.

But why is it being pushed into our faces? One hardly remembers a scene where Arjun Reddy isn't intoxicated. Why is it being depicted that Alcohol and Drugs are a cool diversion for breakup issues? Even after the suspension, there is not much remorse shown by the Hero and he continues his path.

This is a very dangerous signal being given to naive young minds that its totally fine to venture into those things when a 'great cool character' like Arjun Reddy could do it too. Yes, students are stupid enough to believe such things.

Performances:

Vijay D is perfect as Arjun Reddy. He has impressive screen presence. He brings out the anger, craze, attitude and pain brilliantly. He is no doubt helped by great characterization by the Director. His accent however is inconsistent and not as free flowing as his friend's.

Shiva the friend character is portrayed brilliantly. He is not only a major comic relief but a great friend and support to Arjun, knocking sense into him in almost every scene. Single handedly the film's entertainment.

To say Heroine was bad is a massive understatement. Someone like Sai Pallavi would have taken the movie to a different level.

Bottomline:

A different movie from the usual stuff and worth watching once. But let down by a tame and inconsistent narration which goes against the free spirit of the movie. Drug and Alcoholism issues not handled well.

3/5

Was it Entertaining - Yes.

Kids & Elderly - Absolutely No.
