Obamacare did not solve all the problems but made a decent attempt at them. it created new ones in process. so this following post is not my defense of Obamacare. It is about healthcare condition before ObamaCare was in picture. The only thing I hear from most of the people is rise in Premiums and mandatory options. but there is a lot more to it. I will try to write down my observations. bear with the long post. Majority of Americans get their health from employer based healthcare. this was one of the main reasons to get a job, for sake of health benefits. By late 1990, the group insurance costs were getting unmanageable for companies. Big companies could take the hit but Small business were forced to start cutting benefits or change to plans with lesser benefits. The premium increases started overflowing in to employee paycheck early 2000's. we did not see a rapid rise instantly due to the adjustments made in the plans. They started creating various models. from picking one health plan, it came to picking from over 4 -5 plans per employers and there is almost 1k difference per family on premiums. That is a lot of variety. The high risk patients were literally being driven out of the insurance market. Also the plans became so variant that if you change jobs, you are guaranteed not to find the same plan. In 2004, company I worked for created a committee to evaluate health insurance. This is was probably one of the first HSA models. In order to manage premiums at decent rate and still give employees all the benefits, our company decided to increase deductible. so first 1500$ will be paid by employee(unlike then current models where employee is only responsible for co-pays). The company paid the deductible by putting it in a bank account. so the employee did not see any difference to his paycheck. The company benefitted on price inspite of the paying 1500$ to all employees. if you don't use it this year, it rolled over to next year. The company has employees at an average age of around 30 years. Most of them rarely visited doctors. the expectation was they will have enough build up to cover them even after annual max is met.. particularly when they really needed insurance ( when they hit 50+). Later several companies started doing one or more forms of HSA. This helped for a while only to stop the bleeding. Overtime, there are certain batch of people that are being driven out of insurance. Second way of getting insurance is individual market. with very minimal regulations(almost 0 federal and few state regulations), this market is at mercy of the private insurers. This was almost operating like car insurance. IF you have sickness they moved you into a different pool and insurance costs are higher. they were literally driving the people who need insurance out of insurance market. This is also when the super medicines started hitting the market. the pharma costs were the main drivers for insurance increases. Now all these people who got driven out of insurance market were not eligible for the third option , Medicaid. their incomes was little higher and so that option was closed for them. So they either got bankrupt trying to address medical needs or started going into emergency room. the net healthcare burden on the government was reaching all time highs. it became a death spiral. it reached a point where it became a chicken and egg. No one wanted to touch this because it was toxic. Obama started making this campaign theme(just like trump talk about wall and others. novice move). others like McCain, Hillary etc tried to keep a somber approach. naturally people don't like the harsh truth. Posters are easier to understand. the mistake was made then, it is being made now. So now all those people(about 30 million of them) entered the insurance thru health exchanges. Now if you repeal obamacare without a decent replacement, what is going to happen to that 30 million. and there is absolutely no guarantee premiums for others will decrease. the system is baked in. Did airfares reduce after gasoline rates went down. do you guys remember baggage fees was added during 2006/2007 when the gases prices soared. did they go away ? The only option is for all them sitdown and come with a decent plan. make changes to Obamacare. for all the flak it is taking there are some good points. work it out!! Also problem with Obamacare is not just premium increase. there is lot of fluff in it. lots of low hanging fruit if the senators stop partisan bickering and get to it. once they start cleaning the bil, it can be turned around. I wanted to post last night itself in the other Phoenix thread by coke, but thought there is no point spoiling a non political thread. Didn't want to start a new one either !! It's a speech of nothing . Lots of BS and bunch of lies. He spend all the time defending his Charlottesville response. He read back the statement skipping the key words whole world took issue with. He kept playing Victim , fake media same old crap. He even told folks in the room multiple times showing at CNN camera saying they shut off the feed. All this while His entire speech (and several others ones) is being shown live. Same instigations as in campaign. Jeering, taunting , snarling and mocking...then playing innocent victim. Some may like it.. for me it's a disgusting theater Couple of things worth mention . He is going for wall even if it means govt. shutdown . He thinks he lost repeal vote only by one vote .. very clear he doesn't understand politics I don't know why he is calling out D.C. He is D.C. Obviously he is attacking all the republican senator ..even called Jeff flake weak. Yes, he is supporting primary contenders including Kelly ward. They were chanting very bad thins on McCain and he was leading it with glee. Since trump campaign started , I have watched about 40 + rally's and meetings live . I paid attention to every word he said, his mannerisms and his way of talking . I don't follows what other talking heads say. I may listen to them but I always believe in catching things live without other filters. If I hear it thru filters , I will stay behind a significant benefit of doubt. There are times I tried to understand his approach. I really felt he is a good man underneath and his rhetoric is taking wrong path.. well it doesn't matter. This is who he is . He is only cares about himself . He has the most powerful role in the world and he is worried about the comparission of size of people in room and outside protesting .. so the Phoenix one will be my last Trump live. There is no point wasting time on him. I probably should just read in papers like others | ||
