ledhu. Got this from every teacher in typical school. Compared to other kids, he knew his abc's, numbers 1-100 by 3yrs itself.Alage jacket pefect ga vesukoni, zip pettukovatam lanti stuff which regular 3 yr olds take time to master. Typical teachers are only looking for these skills. When the kid zones out and is happy by himself they don't find anything wrong since he doesn't disturb the class. We take social development as somethign that comes natural and need not be taught. It's vice versa for special kids. | ||

India vellipoyi emi chestham. Akkada unde issues akkada untaayi. School systems here are designed to work for everyone. County schools offer early intervention for developmental delays from when the kid is 3 yr old so that the kid is ready to be in KG when he/she is 5. Make use of that. And they will be regularly evaluating the kid and work with parents on finding the optimal solution i.e will he do better in special ed or will he benefit from regular school ani. In my case, he was peaking in special ed (very relative, you know) and teacher suggested try regular school since it will give a chance for him to learn from others. Over summer he improved a lot and now he is learning by watching others in parks and in our community. Each kid is different and we need to be a strong advocate for them. I have been there 2 years back with a kid who lost every word he spoke. Thank god for all the work by wifey, therapists and his teachers - he is a much different person now. All of us need to believe in the kids abilities and not give up. To parents with typical kids - please talk to your kids about autism and the challenges kids have. Awareness is the first step but Understanding and Acceptance is the ultimate thing you can give OUR Kids for being blessed. | ||

early intervention for speech delay ichaamu.he started talking at 3. evaluation 3 times chesaamu. out of them only one time they really evaluated well, and gave proper reasoning for spectrum. we sent him to regular daycare as special school was not more than 3 hours. it was tough to entertain him even after the whole day at school. last year, we sent him to montessori(was not aware its for kids who are super good at learning) . used to ••••••• pants regulary, and i was worried that he is going retro. aa teacher tho matlaadaka we felt intimidated from the way she talks. then we understood why the kid was doing that. she wanted us to take him to neurologist. took him to a proper evaluation this time. the doctor was not much concerned. she asked us to watch out this year, at school. he starts KG this year. he likes to socialize and play. chaduvu kosam koorchobedithe he cries. not sure if its a easy route he chose or he is stressed out by study. have to see | ||

Yep. Andhuke guruvuni daivam tho samaanam ga treat chestham. 1 week complaints ni daily adigina emi cheppaledhu. emina issue unte ventane cheppandi since it takes 2-3 weeks for us to work with the kid ani cheppam. 2 years when he was in much worse situation lo kuuda complaints raaledhu. The only reason for us to send him to regular school is for him to learn from typical kids, based on his previous special ed teacher suggestion. No parent would want to take the risk of placing the kid in regular class without having evidence/gut-check that he will cope with it. | ||

One of the worst day in this autism journey. Kid started going to regular Pre-k for one week. Every day we asked the teacher for feedback on how he is doing. He is doing good ani cheppindhi. Today IEP goal settnig meeting ki vachi oka 2 page complaints list chesukochindhi. As she started reading the list out infront of other special ed teachers, principal and therapists, wife ki kalla lo neellu aagaledhu. I tried to keep myself very composed. Some were genuine issues with the kid. konni vetakaaram ga helana ga chadhivindhi -- he laughs out loudly during nap time, speaks to himself antu oka rakamina helanaga cheppindhi. once she finished reading that, this is good but can you please also list some of his strengths ani adiganu- evo konni cheppindhi. Essentially she started treating him like good for nothing kid. Multiple times, he is better off with one-on-one teaching - intent felt like "I don't want him in my class" . Rest of the support staff immediate ga - that's not the goal, he needs to go to K next year and he has right to this education ani cheppu thesi kottinattu unnaru. 2 yrs of past school lo okka complaint raaledhu, both in special ed and typical school. Open house lo ne vadi issue gurinchi cheppam. 1 week vadini chusina taruvatha kuuda her behavior seemed as if she didn't even try knowing more about autism. Intha passionless teacher ni chudaledhu. Luckily rest of the staff didn't side with the teacher. First week kada, we didn't start working with him. Once we start, it will get better ani chepparu. She may not make a difference to other kids but she has the chance to change my kids life for sure. Will She PS: This is a desi teacher. Typical desi mentality tho vaadini good for nothing laa anukuntundhi. Hoping some day the kid will prove her wrong. I'm sure he will considering the progress he is making. May be this is another blessing in disguise in that it will keep us on our feet and work even more with the kid. There is a reason we say "Guruh Devoh Bhava" after mom n dad. Please don't be a teacher just for time pass. Anyways, other parents with awesome kids that started regular school - can you share your experiences please ? What strategies did you implement to get through this phase ? |
