Andhravodu:another factor could be extreme pricing of telugu movies both for distributor and end consumer
So, Hindi - charges are exhorbitant. But the sample size is huge. Hence it makes sense to release them in the multiplex chains. Malayalam - Rights are acquired dirt cheap. So even though the sample size is small, it still makes sense to release them in multiplexes. Telugu - atu kaadhu... itu kaadhu kaabatti - etu lekundaa poyindhaa? |

Andhravodu:Hindi or Bengali population ekkuva undi, valla movies play avutunte, cinema chains allow to play movies in a profit share basis. Ledante you have to rent the theater? That's my guess
Agreed that Hindi is a whole different ballgame because of the sizeable population. However, how are Tamil and Malayalam different from Telugu? Are Mallus more than Telugus in the UK?? |

Just saw a big note on Idlebrain Duvvada Jagannatham schedules page that the movie would not be screened in any of the multiplex chains in the country and that we had to see it in the single screen theatres only. Haven't seen such a warning message before. That got me thinking. Bengali, Punjabi and Tamil movies are shown routinely in the multiplexes here and are charged at regular box office rates. Why are Telugu movies not falling in line? Could you please help me understand this? I am not looking for a politically correct answer but a real one. Does this mean you get better profits? What is different about Telugu audience in the UK compared to Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali and Punjabi audience? I believe I asked this question before on this board and got some vague responses from people. Still confused. Some insider, if you are here, please shed some light. Request: Please don't turn this thread into yet another UK bashing thread. I understand you guys are in a much better place. Just go easy on us lesser mortals like us, who aren't that fortunate to live in the US. |
