More like 30% ad 50% and 10% hospitals. there are detailed studies regarding this. if interested i will try to post some of the research. typically, Billing department is one of the largest in hospitals, and their role is primarily to assess the insurance imapcts, and adjusting billing patients based on various insurance companies. Mind you, as the number of the insurance companies that a hospital increases, the more they staff they need. infact, there are hospitals billing specialists by insurance companies. The second reason, is legal issues, Hospitals have to maintain quite a bit of legal staff, force operational personnel to fill up externsive legal documentation, in case there are legal liabilities at a later point of time. this also covers your point about lab expenditures, the documentation and legal details that need to be covered by larger hospitals grows quite abit, as their internal labs also need to automated infrastructure built into them, to reduce human errors. anyway - health care only can better with reduction in health care costs, no other government program will not help. health care cost cant go down, this means government dictating various enttiies to control costs. | ||

Health care problem is not with insurance companies. May be they are max 10% problem with them. 90% is with hospitals, clinics and public. oka public university hospital is charging $800 for liver panel test and Vitamin tests only. Ade private diagnostic lab ayithe only $300. Anything with political connections (a practice that goes back to 100 years also), for example OIL and PHARMACEUTICAL industries, they manipulate prices in such a way that price increases are 200 to 300%, but reductions will 30 to 50% But, new industries like electronics and on-line retail where government control is very minimal, the prices keep on coming down all the time. | ||
