If as a parent/friend you see something different with kid, it's good to err on side of caution and dig more deep into it. Be super glad if the kid doesn't fall into the spectrum but still this will push you to give them more attention, which is not a bad thing. 2. The earlier one gets diagnosed with ASD, chances of improvement with early intervention increase exponentially. Being diagnosed at 18months Vs 3yrs makes a huge difference since kids are "relatively" easy to mould at 18months. ASD kids become moratu/stubborn with age. Also young age lo therapies ki baaga respond avuthaaru. 3. Half knowledge tho argument win avvatam kosam kakunda, dig a little dp. It's better to err on side of caution rather than taking easy. I have come across at least five parents that didn't respond fast enough and do early intervention even after initial doubts. 4. Going through the ups and downs of raising an ASD kid, I wish no kid has to go through this and whenever people take it easy or pass casual comments I feel compelled to go on this tirade. my 2 cents ! | ||

Know a girl child who didn't speak more than handful of words until after two. Even with older siblings. But she picked up and became very active after starting school. Know a boy, didn't speak till after 4, parents took him to Temples, worried. But now all fine. So there is no telling. Some kids start doing things later and do better than the fast ones. One suggestion. Kids are talented and pick up any language fast. But some are confused hearing multiple languages. If child needs it, then it is fine to keep all communication in the house in one language. | ||

Monday, met with a friend here in NJ. His 5 yr old kid is being diagnosed as Autistic ani chepithey I was shocked. That was first time meeting him and his family. His relation is my friend from college, so when this guy and his family was moving into NJ, I helped with some references for Apartment Hunting, Commute facilities etc etc. Kid, to me, seemed very normal and very shy. I fondly remember, my baby sister was shy and absolutely in-active, until she turned 3, that too, after my babai showed a lot of attention and engaged her often into talking and laughing and all sorts of "normal" stuff. Main problem, US lo Desi-Immigrant kids are alone. Language Barriers. Hence, they don't get the adequate attention apart from parents, and develop late. at this age i would say the most significant one's are 1) not responding to name -- some times kids ignore - im not talking about that. 2) poor eye contact - sometimes shy kids dont want to look into eyes,but if it happens with parent as well.. 3) if the parent points to something, even to the most interesting thing for the kid - if he is not looking at it. inka chala signs untaayi, but they also can be an outcome of other issues. anyway - its not a good idea to diagnose like this. the parents should go to autismspeaks and answer the questions.. its pretty accurate, but then again, kid could be behaving that way because of other issues. bottom line check with pediatrician https://www.autismspeaks.org/what-autism/diagnosis/screen-yo ur-child that questionnaire is pretty detailed. | ||
