Meerantha enduku hell bent and pitting them against each other I am not demeaning IR here, all I am saying is IR couldn't get a straight Hindi film for whatever reasons - either busy/ north didn't care at that time Sadma has beautiful songs. ARR mesmerized more people than IR. May be IR would have ended up better than ARR if he had seen beyond south. But he did not. Local audience. Local turf. Safe grounds meeda IR fared exceptionally well. ARR in addition to that, he went to the other side, not his comfort zone (different taste audience) and succeeded. IR may be he doesnt care or doesnt know. Bottom line. We dont know if he would have been as successful as ARR as he never did it. Same with Rajamouli. Ikkade unte mana turf meeda manam topu...he convinced a larger audience. | ||

There is one speech by Nazar, during the music composing of Tendra Vandhu teendum from Avatar.. ARR shut down Ilayaraja pretty much when he started with Roja. ANd ARR when he was at his peak went beyond south(tamil) nationally and internationally. IR either did not show interest beyond south or his music was not widely accepted beyond south. Even SPB is popular in north than IR. No question he is a great director. But he is limited to south. period | ||

I am not sure. How much of Ilayaraja's work is appreciated beyond south india ? Does he have that much visibility beyond south ? Padma awards, Symphony in london etc OK. Did he cut across south barrier and is known as an Indian maestro ? ARR did and is successful. | ||
